Just saw this dish on the featured restaurant today.

Anyone been to this place?

Did a little research on the net - this dish is trademarked and very famous in upstate New York.

What a creative signature dish!

Nick Tahou's is a grundgy joint in a grundgy neighborhood, in a grundgy city, and yes, I've been there and even went back for a second meal. I had a pretty good hot dog both times and I observed numerous fellow patrons eating and obviously enjoying the garbage plate. If you ever find yourself in Rochester, you must go to NickTahous, you are missing a unique experience if you pass up an opportunity. You dont have to eat the garbage plate, if, like me, you can enjoy the vicarious experience of others putting it away.

    Cheers, John

I get to the Rochester area once a year or so, and I always stop at Nick's. Not a fancy place, but the food is really good, plenty of it, and reasonably priced. If you're truly into Roadfood, you can't miss this place!

The Garbage Plate is really fantastic. When you go to Rochester, it's a must have.
I had a few friends at U of Rochester, and we always hit Nick Tahoes at some point during my visit.

I agree with the other recommendations. I visited Nick's this last summer and was blown away by the garbage plate. It is a must eat. And it costs less than $5.

After you try Nick's take a drive out Lake Avenue to LDR Char Pit and have a great steak sandwich.

My sister lives up in Rochester, and I always try to bring a real fork from her place to Nick' dish plastic just does not hold up to...

Count me as a fan of Nick Tahou's, too. Despite it not being in the best of areas, I highly recommend any Roadfoodey to try it at least once. From what I understand, several other restaurants in the Rochester area serve something similar to the garbage plate....only they aren't allowed to call it a garbage plate. They will call it something else, like a trash plate or a refuse plate. Don't be fooled....go to Nick Tahou's instead!

There's a diner here in Richmond that does advertise a "Rochester garbage plate." Someone call the trademark police!

Frank's Diner has been in Kenosha, WI since 1926. Their signature dish is the "Garbage Plate," which is a sizzling heap of hash brown potatoes topped with scrambled eggs, green peppers, chopped onions, ham, and jalapeno peppers. Sausage, bacon, and eggs may also be added. It easily serves two and can be ordered as a 1/2 "Garbage Plate" for one.

Sounds like the owners must have known of each other. That would'nt by chance call their dishes the same name.

Mmmmmm!!! I never went to the restaurant, but they ad a booth at the Lilac Festival in Rochestewr a number of years ago and my U. of R. friend said I HAD to try it! Totally hit the spot. Nice and greasy! A buddy of mine said sometimes if you asked, they would scrape the grill and add the grease to your plate. Yeah!
