OMG, that is one of my favorite sandwiches of all time. You just can't find it outside of Bloomington. For those that have not been there, a stromboli in Bloomington is more like a sub that has crumbled sausage, tomato sauce, and cheese. It is served with a side of bread and butter pickles. I normally am not a fan of that kind but they just work with the strom. If you are looking around for good ones in Bloomington, I can also recommend Cafe Pizzeria right down the street from Nicks.

Are you in Bloomington for a while? I grew up there and my parents still live just south of town in Smithville so I have a few other suggestions for you if need them.

So I realize that this person only posted once and disappeared but I am just bringing this thread back up to say that I visited my parents last week for New Year's and on our way into town I called my dad and told him and my mom to meet us at Nick's. My wife and I both got the Stromboli (hers without onion, mine with) and they were just as good as ever. It's defnitely a must have if you visit Bloomington.

I agree. There is nothing I have been able to find anywhere that is like a Hot Strom from Nick's in Bloomington. Outrageously great. First introduced to them when I was a student at IU many moons ago, and have never found anything similar in the US ever since.

Longing for a Hot Strom every since , and not being able to find one anywhere other than in Bloomington, I have resorted to recreating my own at home.

Here is a Utube video that gives a good idea as to how to make one. I have been able to come close, but still have yet to get the pizza sauce right yet.

I was searching for a stromboli recipe, and couldn't find anything like the stromboli I know, from Nick's English Hut in Bloomington. And wow, I know this post is old, but I went to IU and loved Nick's stromboli!  I have only found it one other  place where it comes close, Arni's Pizza in New Albany, Indiana and Floyds Knobs, Indiana.  It is a little different but pretty close.  Nick's is the best - a real must if you ever go to Bloomington. Don't miss it!

    Arnis pizza is good also.
