No Beef Stick!!

I just read on Chowhound that Hickory Farms has discontinued the Beef Stick.  That is the worst news since Junket stopped making their Maple Flavor.

How did it last so long?

Receiving them as gifts I ate them, but I always found them rather sweet and fatty tasting.

Hey, when my grandson was in Iraq, Slim Jims were some of his favorite things. I must have sent four tons of them while he was there.

When I was his age I couldn't drink a beer without eating Slim Jims. Now I still drink a beer, but Slim Jims ain't part of the deal!

I used to do the large Holiday homeless feeding at the mission. I remember seeing all the beef sticks coming in over the Holiday season. I don't know what the baskets will look like with out that beefstick, I think it was placed right next to the fruit cake....................

I could swear that I thought I saw beef sticks at Sam's with all of the gift basket selections. Don't remember if it was Hickory Farms or not. 20 year ago or more we used to go to their mall store to get the samples, I don't think I actually ever bought one or received one as a gift.

One word... Woody's Smokehouse (oh, that's two words :~)) in Centerville Texas!  Beef, Venison, Buffalo, Pork, Elk, and Turkey "Stixs". They are sold by the Lb. Order a few packs and the shipping is not a big deal.

These are the best Stixs I have ever had w/ the exception of some Venison Stix given to me by the Texas Ranger Diving Team. They had all their Deer made into those Stixs so they could have them to snack on while doing their Scuba stuff.

Anyone else here had any Woody's stuff???

On their web site, they also claim to have the World's Best Jerky. Is that just another Texas Boast?

Never met a Texan who didn't think that Texas had the biggest, best, prettiest, fastest whatever it is. The only thing bigger than TX is their Egos!

Oh, I do wonder why Hickory Farms would stop makung their beef sticks. Anyone know?

I have no clue what Bohemian Checkers is/are.
I know about Chinese Checkers, Strip Checkers, Checkers the President's Dog but not Bohemian Checkers.
    Never heard of Pente either!

Pente is a great strategy game invented by Gary Gabrel.  It is an evolution of the ancient Chinese game Go. Gary sold Pente to Hasbro about 30 years ago. It is played online at several sites and is on some of Hasbro's computer game CDs. Gary now owns a small Pizza chain in Oklahoma named Hideaway Pizza.  Good Pizza!

Now, I wonder why no more Hickory Farms beef sticks?

Oh, and Woody's Smokehouse is a kinda famous place here in Texas. It's on the way from Dallas to Houston.

My guess as to why Hickory Farms stopped making their beef sticks would be lack of sales. If I am not mistaken, they are a seasonal product, and at this time of year, in my book, beef sticks would not be something I would pick up as a last minute appetizer item or gift-unless I knew of a diehard beef stick fan!I do, however, have fond memries of going tothe store in the mall as a teenager, and gobbling up their samples-they caught on and put them away when us group of giggling girls came their way.
