"No Travel" Roadfood

I read here that many people live in areas where there is no Roadfood to be had. If you like to cook and would like some adventuresome Roadfood meals, you should buy copies of Jane and Michael Stern's cookbooks. They all have great recipes; most from Roadfood restaurants. The books I have are A TASTE OF AMERICA REAL AMERICAN FOOD SQUARE MEALS AMERICAN GOURMET Each of these books have regional restaurant recipes. I have tried many of them and they are wonderful.........................this is a fun way to have ROADFOOD at home. Just pick the area of the country you wish to dine in and get a couple of recipes and you can "travel" without spending money on gas.

I've actually made "New Joes Special" using ground turkey instead of ground beef and egg whites without the yolk. With a side of garlic bread it's actually not bad!

"Square Meals" is how I learned about the Sterns and became hooked. I have made the baked spaghetti and macaroni and cheese. Emsmom - I'm jealous!

I have Chili Nation and couldn't recommend it more. The Havana Moon Chili has been permanently added to my repetroire. I also have one of their non-food related books, The Encyclopedia of Bad Taste, signed by the recently, dearly-departed Grampy. Something tells me it will become even more of a collector's item now............

I've made several dishes out of American Gourmet. It's fun to try some of the more campy dishes------gives a great conversation starter to a meal.

Square Meals really appealed to me. I tried to get it on Amazon, but they said it was out of print?? I thought it was reissued. Anyone know any other way to purchase it? i am looking forward to the new Roadfood Cookbook!

I ordered my Sqare Meals direct from the Sterns. They had several cases at the time and was offering it at a special price and they even signed the copy that they sent me. Their e mail addres is in their profile quote:Originally posted by zussers Square Meals really appealed to me. I tried to get it on Amazon, but they said it was out of print?? Slick, those 5 books from Amazon are not sold directly from amazon but from independent sellers. I've had bad experiences using that method and prefer to buy a new copy anyway!(Those 5 were used) Thanks for the info though! I'll try to e-mail the Stearns. Have a good day!

Hey, I have Chili Nation, too! I didn't realize it was a Stern book! I made a recipe or two out of it when I was a pup, but now I have my own ideas about Red. But it's a great food book. Tom
