    Michael,
If the price is right, I'll buy regular or cherry Coke. But I don't do that often as I am quite happy with the generic Kroger brand cola. For me there is little difference between Coke/Pepsi, and Generic 'K' brand. I find the differences start to really show up in the Ginger Ales, Root Beers, and 'Other' flavors.

Al, about once a year I'll buy a 12 pack of caffein free diet Pepsi. It takes me a whole year to finish it.

Might want to pay attention to the expiration date on that diet pepsi. I think most diet drinks have a shelf "life" of about 90 days.

What happens after the shelf life runs out? Tastes the same to me for a year.

I think it's some sort of potential problem with the saccharin/nutrasweet/aspartame sweetener. Don't know if products sweetened with Splenda have the same issue.

      Shelf life for sodas:
      Diet (Aspartame/Saccharin/NutraSweet/Sweet & Low) - 90 Days
      Diet (Sucralose/Splenda) - 6 Months
      Regular (Cane Sugar/HFCS) - 10 months

Of course that all probably varies depending on the container (glass bottle, aluminum can, plastic bottle, etc.) and your concern should most likely be with that anyways:

Personally I don't get overly paranoid of things passed their shelf life. If it tastes funny toss it...otherwise...drink it. I can't imagine soda truly going "bad" in a short time.

I picked up a 12 pk of RC Cola with some other stuff this weekend. I tried one can of the RC, thinking of the meories of downing them quite often as a kid. (Haven't had one in at least 20 years). To shorten this post let me say it is/was the worst tasting cola beverage I have ever tasted....diet or regular !  This is the Regular RC and it had an off-flavor that makes MOXIE seem like a sweet Root Beer. That nasty bitter aftertaste really turned me off.

Remember, I like MOXIE and enjoy almost all regular Colas, including the generic Walmart and Big K versions.  But is stuff is terrible. I think I will save it to let Poverty Pete use it as a mixer with his cheap Tennessee Whiskey during his next visit...He' drink anything!

GQ has an interesting piece by Alan Richman (the famous/infamous 25 pizza list guy) on taking Eric Rupert to Costco:

It's pretty interesting. Eric enjoys the bread (it was hot), cheese and the wine...figures though, he is French. "No you're taking me to Coss-co!' in a deep French accent. The video is better than the article:

Considering the changes in ownership I am not surprised that RC Cola sucks nowadays:
