Kannapolis is a place in NC you will get "Lexington" style barbecue. Typically, the eastern style is found everywhere east of Raleigh. The eastern style is a much better choice.

We use straight "Texas Pete" hot sauce for our wings at work.
Not to hijack, but thought I would throw my 2 cents in.

OOps, sorry, I've been out of the loop for the past couple days. I really liked the Texas Pete sauce, was careful not to douse the Q with too much cuz I didn't want to detract from the taste of the meat, but I also dipped my hushpuppies in it from time to time!

Haven't found it locally yet, but I am sure it's around here somewhere.

We buy (for the house) Texas Pete in quart jars. Still love the comment made by the founder of Garner Foods (producer of Texas Pete among other items) to the first President Bush in response to the question "How can you call it Texas Pete when it is made in Winston Salem, NC?"

"Guess the same way a President can claim Texas when he is from Maine". Mr Garner was a tough old bird.

But I want to know if these guys have good catfish.

M&R Barbecue in Granite Quarry (3 miles east of Salisbury on Hwy 52) is another good wood burner. Great burgers as well made fresh daily.

Got back over to see George again today for lunch. This time I went ahead and tried the ribs with a delicious side of greens and his homemade mac and cheese. Once again he did not disappoint! I forgot to tell him to hold the sauce on the ribs, but it didn't matter much cuz they we just so darn finger-lickin', lip-smackin' good!

Of course, I had to try the catfish...I have eaten plenty of catfish in my time, esp. when I lived down in the Ozarks, but I can honestly say I have NEVER had catfish that tasted so good!

The breading was crispied up just right and the fish itself was a melt-in-your-mouth dream. I don't think I've ever eaten breaded, fried fish without some sort of sauce or lemon juice, but believe me, this lovely piece of Cat needed absolutely no help whatsoever. Must be why it's called "George's Famous Catfish!"

George told me that he get's the fish in fresh and does his own fileting, so if you want bone-in, you can have bone-in! Personally, I'm glad it didn't have any bones to slow me down.

Once again I left no room for desert, but I will eat a piece of his wife's sweet potato pie or homemade cookies next time I am back.

This place is definitely on my "A" list now. I'll enter this as an official RoadFood restaurant review over the weekend. I highly recommend a stop by Restaurant 28 anytime you happen to be in the Phoenix area for a "fish out of water" Carolina BBQ experience in the desert.
