Well, I went to North Platte with no recommendations except Runza's and now I know why. There isn't anyplace to eat in North Platte. My husband and I ended up in "Hunan Chinese Restaurant," in the Ramada. We had acceptable Chinese food, although the Hunan Shrimp I ordered was a joke. It came with a couple of dried red peppers on it (to match the one pictured on the menu beside this item) but was as bland as could be. The shrimp were tasty and the brocolli in the dish was fresh and green. So it was okay. The wonton soup was okay as was the moo shu pork.

So if you're stuck in North Platte and don't want to eat cabbage and beef at Runza's, you might try this.

Sorry you struck out in North Platte. We did also when we stopped for the night a few years back. Now we don't count on finding food there, and keep on movin' either east or west!

The only thing I could recall eating in North Platte was Wendy's when I was 11 years old. Sorry I couldn't be of help.

We had a lovely meal at Whiskey Creek Steakhouse in North Platte last July. Whiskey Creek Wood Fire Grill 311 Halligan Drive
North Platte, NE 69101. We both ordered filet mignon and if I recall correctly, the meal came with salad, baked potato with the trimmings and a decent size steak for under $20. It is quite near I80.

Whiskey Creek is a chain, mediocre at best. And Runza is nothing like a REAL cabbage burger! Go on down the road to Ogallala like I been telling everyone for year!

Sorry you feel that way about Whiskey Creek. I didn't realize it was a chain but I'll say again, we had one of the best filet mignon dinners we've had in a long time and we've eaten at many of the steak houses that have been recommended on this forum.

Legall Lady, Where in Ogallala do you eat? We tried one bbq place, but it wasn't all that impressive. I can't remember the name, but it was out near the "lake."

Whiskey Creek is a horrible one-taste chain. You wouldn't like it if you went there twice.
There is an amazing Mexican place on 4th street. I can't remember the name, but you can't miss it. The only place to eat in North Platte.
You can get a Runza or a Whiskey Creek anywhere. (In the state, at least)

My folks live in North Platte, well, now it's just my stepmom, but we made a number of trips over the years and I would have to say the best place we ate was Perkins if that tells you anything.

Okay, I live in North Platte.

My recommendations are...San Pedro Mexican Restaurant, it's on the one-ways near Goodwill. Jeffers Street, don't have the address offhand. The food is amazing. The Canteen Grille in the Quality Inn is close to I-80 and they have very good food as well, although we have never gotten the best service there. The Airport Inn out in the airport east of town is VERY good....perfect steaks and prime rib, all the salads and dressings are homemade as is most everything else. I'd pretty much stay away from anything Chinese here, but the Tempura japanese place near Alco on E. 6th Street is very good.

I also like Whiskey Creek. They have very good service and yes, it is a chain but the steaks are quite good. Much better than Applebee's or similar. Someone mentioned the Mexican place on E. 4th, that would be La Casa Nueva and DON'T BOTHER--the food is expensive and terrible. To be fair, if you're not looking for authentic and prefer Americanized Tex-Mex type food you might like it.....but I grew up in CA and am of hispanic descent and I think the food there is horrible.

Not sure why you don't like the place. Being a foodie I know la casa rocks - man their gravy is delicous. The chimachanga (sp?) was awesome with the green chili sauce. Enchildas really rock as well. Pretty much a hole in the while (where most the good food derives)..You gotta try this mexican place.
