Now THAT's Italian!!

Zappone's Italian Bistro
1652 N. Higley Road, #103
Gilbert, AZ 85234
Hours 11AM-9PM Mon Sat. Closed Sunday.
Just off Route 60 at the NW Corner of Higley & Baseline.
Phone: 480.218.2338
This place has been open less than a year but the quality of the food and the comfortable feel of the place makes it seem like it's been there for a while.
A first timer a week ago, but I plan to be a regular. I thought I was in one of those great Mom & Pop Italian places in North New Jersey!
The baked-on-premise several times a day bread, and the delicious, fresh made sauces just by themselves, would be worth a trip there.
They feature Homemade Pasta and Pizza made with fresh ingredients imported from Italy. They offer a Ravioli and Manicotti of the Day made fresh daily. Unusual Appetizers and very reasonable prices.
I had The Spinach & Ricotta Manicotti and it was delicious. Fresh pasta, wonderful sauce and High Quality Moz Cheese sopped up with that wonderful bread. Heaven!
Got an order of fresh-made  Cannoli's to go. Excellent Wine & Beer list.
Open for lunch and they make their Sandwiches with that wonderful bread.
Did I mention you can get a loaf of that wonderful bread to go for only $3?

We went back again last night and I had an Italian Trio - Shrimp in a mild garlic sauce, and Veal Manicotti and Spinach Ravioli in their Delicious Tomato Gravy, AKA Sauce.!
    My dish was also outstanding.
My bride's not an adventuresome eater so she had Spaghetti & Meatballs. Even something as simple as Spaghetti & Meatballs takes on a "Cut above the rest' position.
The sauce, the meatballs and pasta tasted the best I've ever eaten. Delightful!
And that fresh Baked from scratch Bread----Outta Sight!
Had a dessert I never heard of and couldn't pronounce!
    Sfogliatelle
Ours were filled with Candied Orange Bits, sweetened ricotta cream, semolina, and cinnamon mixture.  Excellent!
    Pronounced SVOY-lee-ah-tell-eh or SFEE-la-tell

Yep...that's Italian....looks like North Jersey has spread to Arizona,,,,and Sfogliatelle was a favorite of my mom....Mangia...and enjoy. If they sell Pizza bread you could make an authentic North Jersey Italian hot dog!

And while they're at it start a Jersey-style diner as well?
(Hopefully one that does not "chicken-fry" anything but chicken!).
