Well, I personally love just about all nuts (lets keep this topic clean LoL), but Ide have to go w/ cashews and walnuts as my favorite. I personally make a lot of trail mixes and put them in little baggies for quick on the go snacks. I like to mix banana chips, raisins, dried apricots and assorted nuts.

Anyone have any favorite/unusual dishes that include nuts? Of course theres always the usual pecan pie, but maybe something a little less common?

My favorite nut is Pecans. I love them in just about anything. I grind them up and add to my cream cheese stuffing for celery, I add them to salads and mix up cin. and sugar and glaze them, I like them salted, roasted, and raw. I just wish they weren't so darned expensive.

There is a receipe out in cyberland somewhere that you use chopped up olives and pecans to make a olive nut spread (I think Heloise came up with this one). I don't have my receipe handy but surely it can be "googled".

Ya know, when I listed this topic I knew the title could go lots of different ways....I decided to play it straight! And I'm enjoying all the "nutty rsponses" so far! Don't forget about nut butters - peanut butter, obviously, but I've also seem almond butter (which to me doesn't taste so good)...

    Hello All,
As a child I loved peanuts only, until I ate some (in a shell at a baseball game)
that had worms in them. I was so ill that I didn't eat peanuts for years unless
it was in or on a candy bar...gotta love those Paydays.
I like any nut involved with chocolate, except WALNUTS. I hate walnuts, yet I have
over 12 walnuts trees which the squirrels love, which makes me love those squirrels and
causes me think that people that love walnuts must be a bit squirrely. Of course,
I've never ate an English Walnut, and never intend to since I support the Irish cause, which
    is another matter.
Pecans are another flavour I will get ill over.
Almonds became an early love thanks to Hershey's with Almond bars.
The years have given me a love for cashews, chestnuts and hazelnuts.
Lately, we made a liqeur out hazelnuts from our hazelnut trees. It is tasty.
I will partake of the donut as well.
There was a nut I once love, my first wife, but she gave me heart disease.
My second wife, another nut, the Debra-nut, cured my heart disease and I enjoy her daily.
And oh yes, pine-nuts are wonderful, especially in a crustard-like desert that my wife
makes, but I can't recall the name of it. It's Italian.
I hope you all will consider me your Nutty-Buddy...in honour of a good candy.
    Take Care,
    Fieldthistle

Cashews are my favorite. Next in line are walnuts, pecans, almonds (especially BBQ), spanish peanuts, honey roasted peanuts, dry roasted peanuts, and hazelnuts.
The only nuts I don't really like are Brazil nuts and boiled peanuts.

We love to cook with nuts, particularly in spicy Chinese and Thai stir frys.

I like pretty much all nuts except pistachios. If I was forced to pick a favorite, though, it would be macadamias.

Love your sense of humor! The Italian nut is pignoli which is the same as the New Mexican nut pinon or the American nut pine nut, but enough about American nuts, we don't have to bring politics into it!

    My favorite nuts are pinenuts.

Every year we go out into the hills and collect them. We make it a weekend family and friends camping trip.

We eat well, we drink a bit, listen tomusic, dance, etc. Generally have a great time.

Also get really filthy, as pine sap is real sticky, in most of the good areas the soil is red and sandy, between that and the pine sap, we all end up really pitchy.

The secret is to wear old clothes that can be "pitched" before going into the house, and using lard to clean the pitch off the body before bathing.

Pine nuts are great raw, boiled, baked, etc. Used for just eating, in recipes, making into a flour to be used in baking or other cooking.

They taste great, have sort of a sweet piney taste.

Pistachios are my favorite as well as a lot of my co-workers. The family has about 50 acres of these trees in Fresno and I get sent at least 1 care package every year. When I do I share at work, you should see those nuts dissapear.

I also like cashews and basically all other nuts. Except for filberts and walnuts, don't care much for either of them.

Nuts! Yum yum! I eat them virtually every day, and I swear doing so keeps me healthy. When I was a kid, I'd eat those red-dyed pistachios until my hands were completely covered in red dye. Now I buy the big bags of them at Costco or BJs...they are so much more affordable than they used to be. But I always commented that I remember them tasting a little different when I was young. Recently, I bought the Turkish pistachios at Trader Joes, and they tasted like I remember pistachios tasting in my youth. So maybe it's the difference between California pistachios and Turkish ones??!!

The only nuts I don't really like are cashews. Here's my list of favs (in descending order)
    **pistachios
**smoked almonds (not particularly good for you, but I love 'em!)
**Plantars dry roasted peanuts -- that "breading" is so good!
    **pecans
    **regular salted almonds
    **macademia nuts
**all the others (walnuts, brazil, etc)

Cashews are definitely the favorite, though it's hard to beat a big handful of honey-roasted peanuts.

Least favorite is tougher. I like almost all nuts at least a bit. I've never really been that partial to pistachios, although I have tried the chile coated pistachios NYNM mentioned and they were pretty good. Almonds, maybe. I like the flavor in other things, like almond flavored pastries or liqueur, but not so much the straight nuts. Similar with hazelnuts-- love things like Nutella or Frangelico, but I tend to pass over the actual nuts if presented in a bowl.

    Dan B,
    a little nuts.

    I love Cashews and Peanuts

    They DO NOT love me.

I make my own cashew butter with honey, OMG is it good

Other than that I am not to big on nuts, almonds in chocolate are the exception.

    Cookies with nuts
    Chicken Salad with nuts
    Fudge with nuts

I guess that makes me a nut!

I love most nuts (except salted peanuts. But I love peanut butter!).

Did anyone buy, at Costco this holiday season, the assorted jars of six types of nuts? They had pumpkin-spiced almonds, sweet onion cashews, cranberry almonds, Irish cream almonds, butter rum almonds, and one other one. Yum yum.

Pistachio??. I like this nut roasted with salt with my evening libation. Sometimes can be difficult to extract from the shell.

In addition I have had the ice cream in Nova Scotia (Halifax) down on the bay/river.

I like most all varieties of nuts, but my favorite nuts are imported pistachios, not the California variety. They used to sell Iranian pistachios in all the stores exclusively until the embargo in the ‘70’s – which coincided with the introduction of the California crops. You can still buy Turkish (almost as good as Iranian) ones on the web from a few places, some of the best are from Zenobia - http://www.zenobianut.com/department.asp?departmentID=1
Expensive, but they are definitely worth it.

Anyway, My favorites are Pistachios, Macadamias, cashews, in that order. Let's not forget smokehouse almonds!

I love them all but my special favorites are cashews, pistachios, and hazelnuts. I eat unsalted almonds every morning after my gym work-out but they sure are bland. I also like roasted chestnuts around the holidays.

I like peanut butter and absolutely LOVE Nutella (hazelnut chocolate spread) but the latter is way caloric so I rarely eat it.
