hopefully the rear will sit about in the right spot, and with a 2" spindle drop up front i will be in business..... that and the side pipes should have me look like im sitting low and slow, without actually having to resort to a full blown lowering

Oh man that would be very cool. And I know your busy as hell what with the work and the project but please don't forget.
Thanks a bunch
Jack

PS there has to be an easier way to get some weight in your SV than loading all those bags and then unloading them after a 15 minute ride???????

Re:OFFICIAL NC FOOD TRUCK BUILD W/PICS 2011/10/18 22:46:37 (permalink)
Well I spoke with the guys at the muffler shop today and they said the trucks to big for them to do the spring job on. But Frank called around and found out that a normal SV has about 9 springs on the back and mine has 15. So someone has added extra springs to beef up the truck to carry a heaver load.Remember the front sits 14 inches off the ground and the back 19 inches off the ground.

So here is my question: should I just wait until I get everything done and all the equipment loaded (extra weight) and then take on this part of the project? Or go ahead and get the spring work done now? I'm thinking do the walls, the layout, electrical, generator, add the equipment and see how she rides and the height off the ground and then do the spring work.

shop repair manuals can be found on ebay, i got one for my '77 there a few weeks back, if i remember right, they pretty much had any year you could ask for, owners manuals are a different story....they are usually the first thing to go by the way side in a commercial truck like these....

Well you guys were right I found an online company that carried exactly what I was looking for and ordered it by phone on Monday and it arrived today. I now have both the 1988 light duty truck unit repair manual for all trucks including  the value van (Step Van) with the forward control chassis, and the GMC 10-30 series 1988 R-V-G-P Light Duty Truck Service Manual, which is over 4 inches thick. LOL  And I orderd a P-30 G-30 Chevy RV Motor Home Chassis Service Guide Plus!!! ALL1980-1991. But it hasn't come in yet. I think I may order the CD set also.

Buck and BackAlleyBurger thanks for your help.
Jack
PS I also found the pamphlet they gave out in the Chevy showroon in 1988 to introduce the new model step vans.Pretty cool.

hahahaha...im alive !!
i just saw Dr calling me out on the other thread so figured i better get in here and make an appearance, lol

had to go back to work, and 12 hour shifts on top of a 2 hour round trip aint leaving much time in the day to get things done......

i have made some progress over the last 2 months, but it has been a little here and a little there..... damn i cant wait to get out on my own again.... i dont mind putting in 14 hour days, but i mind it a lot more when its putting the real money in someone else pockets....
if i can remember how i have a few more pics to put up, i think you will start to get a better feel for the theme of the truck at least now.....

and DR..... i havent forgot you man, i am guilty of being a slack ass on that, and apologize..... but things have started to settle down around here after the holidays and all so i will have you at the top of my to do list very shortly....

hhmm, not sure that came out right, lmao.....

i bought this fo rthe boat a couple years back, but never used it....

its a marine rated 2 bank charger/tender....perfect for the kurby :)

the second "house" battery will be going in the unused foot well on the drivers side..... i am going with as much 12v stuff as i can, and preliminary doodling has me thinking i am around 4k needed for a genset by doing so
the orange and yellow wires you see curled up there are prewires for an under hood light, and an electric washer pump for the wind shield....... believe it or not, this thing came with a small hand pump on the dash for the washer fluid, lol..... i like old cool...but that was just old junk !, lol

Re:OFFICIAL NC FOOD TRUCK BUILD W/PICS 2012/01/03 22:22:02 (permalink)
i modified the front harness to use relays for the headlights, and man was that a good thing, those babies burn bright !!....i also have prewired for an electric fan that will use twin parallel relays for ultimate reliability.....

every single light.... clearance/running/tail have been upgraded to LED twin wire set ups to do away with all the floating grounds.... i have wired the entire van with a common ground point leading directly back to the battery, was a little extra work, but now that its done i will never have to worry about bad grounds....
headlights are being upgraded to crystal clear glass faced diamond cut tri bar blue dots.... i hope the local LEO's are ok with that, i dont think it will be an issue, but i will deal with that if/when it arises....

thats about all i can think of for right now...... lol, only the driver side side pipe is installed, it got cold and dark sun evening, so the passenger side waits until sat afternoon, im not complaining, lol, its supposed to be back up in mid 60's this weekend...... found a local shop that will tie the headers into the side pipes for 90 bucks !! but they are closed on weekends so i will have to figure something out.... this working thing is really getting in my way right now !!, lol

oohh yes....... the official kurbmaster projekt will from now on be referred to as "the kurby", lol....

i found a perfect hood system and equipment stand combo unit for the van.... it was like a waffle house unit but just smaller, guy wanted 400 bucks for it....
only problem was the unit measured 78 3/4" wide...and the kurby is only 78" wide..... before i could get a hold of the stainless guy and see what could be done a lady from across town jumped in and got it..... i think im going to regret not getting it...... oohh well, ya cant win em all, lol

Hell it's not a race, and the more careful you are now the more satisfied you'll be when your done. And your making good speed what with the wiring changes and body work. The neat thing is when your done you'll have a vast amount of knowledge about your rig unlike those that go out and buy a food truck. You have a problem down the road you'll know exactly whats wrong. Of course your not likely going to have a problem with a rebuild like your doing. But just saying.

Re:OFFICIAL NC FOOD TRUCK BUILD W/PICS 2012/01/05 22:44:00 (permalink)
which ones ?
i got everything from various Ebay sellers
the flaming running lights came from  "closertowholesale"
the headlights from "chromedepot"
and the clearance lights and wiring harness for them from "randpcarriages"

all three companies have been great to work with... highly recommended !!
