OK haters, here's a spiral cut skinless dog ultimately squirted with ketchup

http://www.youtube.com/wa...eature=player_embedded[/tube] The jist of this is to spiral cut for maximum caramelization and ease of condiment additions. Fwiw, I prefer a Usinger skin on frank on a butter toasted bun sprinkled with sweet onions, no mustard, no ketchup, or a fully loaded Vienna Chicago dog.

Not a bad idea. Except for the catsup, of course.

Looks interesting enough to try once. But with only mustard.

Wonder how that would work with other coarser grind sausages like Kolbasi & Italian???

You'd have to balance the added flavors with the loss of juiciness. Kielbasa (our preferred spelling in Milwaukee) and Italian's could create some gigantic flare-up if you're not careful. On the other hand, I'd bet they'd be delicious.

I tried the spiral cut yesterday with Hoffman(not Michael)N.C. reds and whites. They were a big hit. Great taste also.

is hating ketchup on a dog a regional thing? the spiral dog looks good..yum. do not care for relish.

I would never do such a thing to any kind of Italian or Polish sausage (or the like). All the juice would disappear (along with the "snap"). I would, however, try this with a skinless frank. And yes, I would most certainly enjoy ketchup on my dog (I usually run about 50% between choosing ketchup and mustard).
