Obama's Chili Recipe Sat, 11/29/08 9:33 AM (permalink)
I made it, very delicious, very different, here it is in the pot, before it was all plated out. Some ate it with rice, cheddar cheese, sour cream. I will make it again, it must have been the spices and the vinegar (and I used ground turkey)!!! Recipe linked.

I would have to omit the beans. I can no longer eat beans of any kind and any other legume. My dietary habits are dramtically chaing as I get older.

Slaw and cabbage are getting tougher on the systems as well as many other things that I have no identified yet. I hope it does not get worse.

I like the recipe but I use very lean Beef and Venison, I do not care for ground Turkey. I use beans if I am asked to , but I do prefer not to. IMHO ground Chicken takes on the flavor of the dish better than Turkey.. But I will take Venison/Beef mix when I can.

I prefer beanless chili, but I don't mind pinto beans if they're going to be in there.  One bean I absolutely hate in my chili though is the kidney bean.  I'm betting it's because my Mom served them to us a fair amount as kids and she consistantly undercooked them, serving grainy kidney beans.

I made this last month.  It wasn't half bad.  Real garlicky.  Good for those who don't like it real spicy.  Plus, the novelty of it made for fun conversation.

Those green peppers you can see in the picture, from the recipe link, did not get cooked w/ the meat. Someone added those later for the picture. :~)

I made the Obama chili out of curiosity. It was not that bad. The red wine vinegar and tumeric, two things I've used before, gave it a distinct taste. I followed the recipe exact as I could. The secret ingredients Obama said he left out had to be cayenne for one because it needed more kick. When cooked the green peppers lose their bright green color so can't look like the picture in the article.

I'd probably omit the red wine vinegar, because hubby can't stand vinegar. But the turmeric is interesting. Typically, we also add refried beans, to make the chili nice and smooth.
