I've been near this area (Gainsville) before. I will be staying a couple of days next week on my way south. I'd appreciate some ideas of where to go in this area.

I've had mixed luck with Sonny's BBQ (a chain), but the one I went to in Ocala was pretty good. On Rt 19 near Salt Springs is an "all you can eat" catfish restaurant called "Shellcrackers" . They do up great little whole fried catfish. Someone here mentioned a "goat BBQ" somewhere northwest of Ocala - maybe along rt 316. We're planning to look for it while we're in that area in February. And, if you use the "search" feature you might find some places in and around Gainsville - I know a number have been mentioned on these forums in the past year. Let us know what you find - a lot of us travel thru that area every year and are always looking for new places.
