My husband would like us to host a party in October for his department at work- maybe two dozen people. I was thinking of an Octoberfest theme (hubby's passion is beer, two bad our hops aren't ready for harvest, yet) and would welcome any ideas, recipes.

What else but bratwurst and sauerkraut? While in my admittedly prejudiced opinion, some of the local butchers have better brats, Johnsonville has an acceptable one that's available nationally. What might be tougher is finding the proper buns -- rye buns shaped like hot dog buns. See this website for more info: http://www.bratwurstpages.com/brats.html

I am not a fan of German-style potato salad but this is the recipe that everyone gobbles up when a lady in our town makes it for potlucks. (I would probably only use 1/2 cup of sugar and then see if it needed more.) GERMAN POTATO SALAD 8 large potatoes 2 stalks celery 3 or more hard-boiled eggs 1 medium onion, finely minced 1 or 2 Tbs. fresh chopped parsley Dressing: 6 slices bacon 2 eggs, beaten 1 cup sugar 1 tsp salt 1/ 4 tsp. pepper 1/ 4 tsp. dry mustard 1/ 2 cup vinegar 1/ 2 cup water 1 heaping tsp. cornstarch Cook, drain, and cube potatoes. Add diced celery, hard-boiled eggs, onion , and parsley. To make dressing: Saute and drain bacon. Thoroughly mix all other ingredients and add to bacon grease; cook until thick. Sprinkle crumbled bacon on potato mixture; add hot dressing and combine. Serve hot or chilled.

Thanks! Please keep these suggestions coming. I introduced my Italian husband to Johnsonville brats (I precook them in beer). He wants something more than just brats, so I welcome any and all ideas. And if you're in the neighborhood.....
