Oddest Potato Chip Flavors.

Dearfolk,
Okay, I'm going to play the Deist and create this thread and wind it up and leave it going. My role is not as poster for once but solely as creator.
The world awaits the thundering myriad of responses.
Wishfully, Ort. Carlton in Lovely Athens, Georgia.
P. S. I created the ficticious Mockbee Bros. Ultra-BBQ Potato Chips for my novel. Is there any chippery making anything that is major-league-hot BBQ?
P. P. S. Does anyone make lime flavor? I bet that would be good....

Asian chips...interesting, to say the least. I have yet to try them, but I have found seaweed and curry-flavoured potato chips.

I actually like curry flavoured crisps well some of them. Golden Wonder did a really nice version in the late 80's that I loved but have long stopped making them since.

Ive actually eaten the Pickled Onion Monster Munch mentioned in the 10 worst. I much prefer their Roast Beef flavour. We seem to get a lot of variations on pickled onion flavoured crisps and corn/potato snacks here, they are not something I enjoy. The oddest flavour Ive come across was hedgehog flavoured crisps.... that was quite a while back. Apart from that, Marmite flavoured crisps ( no, not Twiglets ! ) and Bovril flavoured. I like those !

Oh yes ! Walkers Roast Chicken crisps, mm-mm good

I used to detest any form of meat when I was a small child, I remember my family trying to get me to eat the chicken flavoured crisps in an effort to persuade me to eat the real thing

I got kind of attached to the LAY's LIMON Flavored Chips that were test marketed for awhile about 5 years ago. It seems that my taste-buds were in the minority, as they withdrew the test chips from the market!!

Oh yeah, Lay's Canada made Roast Chicken and Fries n' Gravy potato chips a while ago. They were only available in Eastern Canada, but I don't think they're being made anymore. I would've liked to have tried the chicken ones. :(

Well, the local CVS is having a sale on Pringles, but from the number of cans still on the shelf, looks like Salt & Vinegar isn't a popular choice around here!

I have a difficult time trying to decide between mango flavored and gnip flavored chips. The mango chips are excellent when enjoying a strawberry-mango daiquiri on the rocks. But when it comes to something to eat while sipping a rum and tonic it has to be gnip chips every time. On the other hand, there is a lot to be said for kallaloo chips with fish and fungi, especially when you're having a cold rum and coconut water.

Back in the early 80s, I remember Charles Chips had Bacon flavored chips in their canister. It was only for a very short time, and I thought they were delicious. Odd flavored as they might be.

I just tried "Jalapeno, tequila & lime" Kettle Chips. That may not sound so odd, but they definitely tasted odd. Not exactly bad, but not an experience I'd willingly repeat.

Pringles Select just released a new product line, among the flavors: sun dried tomato (ick), parmesan garlic, (probably the one I'll buy) Szechuan Barbecue and I think cinnamon as well. These all qualify for 'oddest' IMO.

The Szechuan chips are pretty good, I have purchsed them more than once. I think that they would be good with a similar sauce (Hoisin or Oyster?)that is pictured on the package.

That same sauce is great with shrimp or squid chips. What is great about them is that you can buy a bag of ready to eat chips or you can get them as thin wafers which you can fry up yourself. It is fun to watch them puff up.

My Holy Grail is to locate the Kettle Chips Thai Flavor (Ginger with an attitude). I found them in Hawaii and at Whole Foods in NYC., both are a bit too far. But recently, the gas station down the corner has the small bags @$1.00. I think this is a mistake on their part as Kettle Chips are not cheap.

I've mentioned this on another potato chip thread before, but the best--and most unusual--potato chips I've ever had were the now defunct Poore Brothers chinese mustard flavor. Like chinese mustard, it had a stinging bite to it (but only for a moment) and that sensation was followed by a slightly sweet and enjoyable chinese mustard flavor.

Oddest potato chip I ever tasted was pretty recent, black bag, called Doritos X-17 or somethin, where the contest is the consumer gets to come up with the name. Basically the chip tastes like pizza, and way too overpowered for my tastes.

You're right, MissKitty, those Marmite crisps are LOVELY. And I happen to like Pickled onion flavour Monster Munch.

Ever had Beef & Mustard chips? Yummy!
