Oh!

Got laid off today.Am pretty pleased and freaked at the same time. I worked in the quisine department at a major printing company, 3rd shift. We lost a major account, and therefore they have to lay off. I was the new kid on the block. Its okay, I guess-have lots of leads for tomorrow.

I worked for the same pharmaceutical company for 43 years.  Another company bought them and they retired me with a six month severance.  I was financially OK and I took my retirement, 401K and SS and was immediately employed by another pharma company.  I was a consultant for one year and then they made me a minority owner.  It worked out real good.

After they retired me, there was a downturn in the industry which is sorta cyclical for that particular industry.  They ending up closing several locations and the company that hired me as a consultant put me in charge of all new projects.  Before the industry started back up which was about a year, I leased all their previous locations that they had closed.  I beat them to the punch as the site was already prepped for our use.  My previous company that retired me got really pissed.  I laughed at them.

I am of the mind( and thanks for everyone's encouragement) that I am better off.I was totally under utilized as food service person( having run a deli that made a $25,000 a week) This company believes in   food production, and no customer service. While my customers were factory workers, they liked me-good food and good service. Rubbed people the wrong way. Plus, I was the new person in the department-thus I am the first person to go.Thanks, Paul-got your messege!!

Ann, I felt so bad when I read this -- I was at work and it just really touched me, because 6 people have been paid off at my work. I friend-requested you on Facebook, but you might not really know who I am, because I never really have the time to post on here anymore.

Good news, my friends!! I just got a job Thursday as a chef at a well established one of a kind specialty store in the area!! No more 3rd shift, more hours and same pay. They hired me on the spot at my interview.
I am thrilled, as this is a place I frequent-they have a fantastic deli( of which I will be heading the hot food) their own butchers, a beautiful bakery, and a great reputation. More importantly, we make 90% of our own entrees, and there is much room for me to be creative, unlike the last place.
    Woohoo!

Congratulations!  I once was the chef in a deli that was associated with a bakery/fish market/meat market/produce dept./ etc.  I had a blast, it was so much fun!  So be creative and go get 'em!

Ford just opened 1800 new jobs at their Louisville plants and UPS is getting ready to take on it's seasonal Xmas Workers at the Airport facility.  The job market is beginning to look up a bit in this area.
