Oil Tank wants to be a Cooker!!

Free Empty House Oil Tank to good home. It wants to grow up to be a cooker. If it can't be a cooker it will be glad to retire and rest as scrap metal. It is empty and light. I can pick up one end myself. It is in my basement but measurements tell me that it can fit up the stairs and out the door. Please email me if you are interested in helping my tank grow up or retire. Must be willing to take out of my basement and haul away yourself. Thanks.

That's the truth, and if it is that light, it wouldn't be much of a cooker.

Oil Tanks can be cleaned and not be a hazardous waste. Oil Tanks only become hazardous waste if you bury it in the ground or dump the oil into the ground or ground water. Oil also burns very well so any residue can be burned out after cleaning out the sludge. Those who know anything about BBQ cooking will know how to clean it as well as season it. They will also know how to convert it too a cooker. As for the quality of oil tank it's in very good condition and is made of heavy enough to cook in. I did not say I could carry the item by myself or for very far I just said it was light enough for me to pick up which means it doesn't weigh 1 ton or anything. It is of nice size and good condition. P.S. As for my location, I'm in Battle Creek. But I figured it was easy enough for those truly interested to look at my profile.

There are many smokers that were once oil tanks, you must clean them well and then sand blast them but it would make a great smoker, thats the thing I dont care for on this site ....Too many people comment on things they know nothing about. Thats why I dont post here much...

If it wasn't for old oil containers most of the south wouldn't have bbq this weekend. Split it, load it w/ wood, and burn it out. Or built it and then burn it out. Same difference...Got two myself...wanna buy one?...just kidding...we loan them out to the scouts and the church.

P.S. As for my location, I'm in Battle Creek. But I figured it was easy enough for those truly interested to look at my profile. Let me clarify what I meant. My brother has worked for D&H recycling for 25 years. They recycle oil tanks, oil drums, food grade drums etc... As long as the oil that was stored in the tank was not used oil, it is fine to use. Using a tank that stored used oil in it is not a good idea because you can burn out the tank all you want, but you will never completely release the carcinogens absorbed in the metal. They will release slowly over time into the food you are cooking. The only way to do that is to melt down the tank or barrel and reuse the molten metal to make a new tank. Many people believe that it is ok to use any kind of used oil tank to make a pit, sporting an attitude that if they use it and they don't get sick, then it is fine. Unfortunately they are mistaken. Doing this causes long term harm, not short term.

Ohman is right, if you don't know what your talking about, stop talking Well, the problem is that most of the time when I don't know what I'm talking about, I usually am convinced that I do. My mom always said that the more wrong I was, the more self-rightous I would get about it. So don't be angry when people are wrong...we all are oblivious sometimes. By the way, great pic. I also have an oil drum I love. Bright red...I call it the fire truck.
