Old Wrigley's gum TV commercials

Remember the old commercials for Juicy Fruit, Big Red, DoubleMint? For some reason I was thinking about them today....the Juicy Fruit "tree" ads, the DoubleMint "twins" (two cute twin girls), and the "Marry me Sue" skywriting ad for Big Red. I was a severe TV junkie when I was growing up and my recollection of these gum ads prove it. Anyone else remember these ads?

Sure I remember those. For instance, the Big Red commercial where the couple kept kissing goodbye for so long that one of them ended up missing his train. I also remember the Doublemint jingle, which had a way of getting in one's head and not departing. "But the single-most favorite double in the world is doublegood doublemint doublemint gum!"

IMO they were always creepy, we're just old enough to recognize creepy now. 20-odd years ago when I worked with commercial film editors I used to hear nightmare stories about certain Wrigley's executives waking people up in the middle of the night about commercials that were already approved because of things like one of the twins was ugly or a model's nose was too big or her hair not the right shade. Most folks I knew worked on one Wrigley's ad, and then never again.

How could one twin be ugly and not the other? The ones they use now aren't even twins, which makes it both creepier and funnier both.

When I was a kid we toured the Wrigley mansion in Catalina. We are all furious when we discovered there was no gum tree there!!!
