Dearfolk,
Shame, but they don't appear to make livermush jelly beans. But then again, Ronald Reagan wasn't from North Carolina.
Tonight, I'm in mourning for The Genius Of Soul: Ray Charles passed today at 73. Since I already live on the outskirts of town, I'm gonna Hit The Road, Jack and Go Get Stoned at Copper Creek Brewing in a minute. But not too badly. Promise.
My favorite recording by the man is his Atlantic album recorded in 1959 in Atlanta: Ray Charles In Person (ATLANTIC 8039, I think). It's on a CD now. Thing was recorded with one hand-held mike using a portable Wollensak tape recorder. Here's to Radio Station WAOK's engineering department!!
And here's to The Gipper, Brother Ray, and also to Bill Lowery, the impressario who put Atlanta on the music map with his publishing house. We lost them all right together. SALUTE (X 3) !!!!!
Bowingly, Ort. Carlton in Lovely Athens.
P. S. Now I gotta write another column. Keep watching
