Wish I could have a 3-way right now (Skyline Chili 3-way that is). I only get to go to a Skyline about once every 2 years to visits relatives in KY/OH. I absolutely love their coney dogs. I always stop at Skyline even before I stop to visit the relatives.

Joe Texans would justifiably revolt after a taste of Cincinnati's so-called chili. It's not chili, it's a cinnamon-flavored meat sauce.I like it, but it bears as much resemblance to chili as a dead bird to a concrete planter.

I had one of the last 5-ways and cheese coney's out of the place. I used to go to school just around the corner. Have not been to the new one. Looked just too clean! I can wait a couple of decades I guess. Got to let the smells seep into the place!

Cincinnati chili is indeed chili. However, it's quite different that plain ole chili or Texas style chili. Goldstar chili, for example, has cinnamon, allspice, and cocoa in it. I think Cincinnati chili is an acquired taste. For some reason people around here love it. People from out of town either love it or despise it. It's just one of those things I guess. I'd choose Goldstar Chili any day of the week over Skyline Chili. That doesn't mean I dislike Skyline. I know that I can't wait for Goldstar to come out with footlong cheese coneys, though. They have them in the summer time. It's too bad it's only a seasonal thing.

I also want to add that Cincinnati chili isn't very spicy. However, they have bottled cayenne pepper sauce at every table, and you can get it in packets at the drive-thru. Goldstar bottles their own cayenne pepper sauce. I think Skyline does the same also.

Of course, chili snobs like to thumb their noses at Cincinnati chili. There's one in every crowd. Chili has become different things to different places around the world. The word means nothing, in that it only refers to one component of the spice (herd) used to flavor whatever the dish might look like. I really like a nice plate of Cincy 5-way. It's nothing like I'd get at home, in Texass or South Carolina, but it's good. Food snobs get preconceived notions in their heads and think nothing can be different. I've learned to enjoy many types of food by shedding those notions.

I remember when President Reagan was in town once, the local news guys did a piece on the press corps being fed Cincinnati chili for their lunch before moving on, asking their reaction to our Beloved Regional Specialty. A large florid Australian gentleman said, as he finished off what looked like a five-way and two coneys, "Well it's not rilly a fair dinkum chili, is it? It's more like a curry, really, or something you'd find in Indonisier. But it's not really a fair dinkum chili. [Forking up the last bits from his plate.] Damn. It's bloody good, though, i'n't it?"

Actually not only in Cinci: http://www.skylinechili.com/skyline_locations_main.php There's a couple here in Michigan. Though not shown in their locations listing, from what I understood there was one in Grand Haven or Muskegon also... Just did a quick search, Muskegon is the place: Skyline Chili (231) 767-0603 2039 E Apple Ave Muskegon, MI 49442

You must have to be born here to love Skyline, Goldstar or any other Cincy chili. Coney dogs are the worst also. I just don't get it!?! I would put a Fort Wayne Famous Coney Island chili dog up against any Cincy coney. Chili dogs in downtown Roanoke, VA are pretty good also.

We have a friend who moved here from SC some years back; she left for NC a few years ago, and whenever she visits us, she needs Skyline. And whenever we visit her or send gifts, we get her cans of Skyline. Co-workers from not-here are enthusiastic as well.

Just so I am sure I understand your point....your claim is that people not from this region (Cincinnati and thereabouts) cannot possibly enjoy this regionally unique food, and you're making this claim on a website that is at it's heart about people from many different regions enjoying regionally unique food generally not found in their own home region, ie they go on the "road" to enjoy this "food" Right?
