Only time for one BBQ stop in Memphis... ?

I have a friend who is going, with some other folks, to Memphis. But... they will only have time for one BBQ meal. I would like to give him some advice.

His favorite place in the DFW area is Spring Creek. Their Q has a mild, not real smoky flavor. You can't get too smoky for me but their BBQ is still good I think.

I have eaten at most of the BBQ places in Memphis. I am leaning between Payne's, Cozy Corner, and Central.

Payne's is real good. Cozy Corner has those Q'd Cornish Hens to go with the pork Q. Central has good wet, and also dry ribs.

I also like Hayne Smokehouse but that might be to smoky for my friend.

Hmmmm?

Joe

Of the places I have visited, Cozy Corner was the clear winner and is on my short list of best bbq parlors in the country.

Cozy Corner is excellent but their hours sometime may not be convenient. Closed on Sundays and Mondays and open to 5:00 the rest of the week. Central would be a good choice, especially now they have two locations.

He is going to Biel St. tonight. He has his own band and will get a BIG kick outa that! Hey, just wish I was there!

And, keep postin yall. Other folks might need this info.

LOL Bailey, true! Once your there it's pretty safe. To and from your car be careful.

Susan, no, he is just taking a vacation. His band plays in the Dallas metro area. Are you a performer?

I am not, but my husband is. He plays at the Hard Rock downtown periodically. Not his day job, fortunately.

My friend just does his band part time also. Hard to have a family and do it full time.

Susan, my friend did make a stop at the Hard Rock. He said it was a fun place.

He did not go to any of the places I suggested. His one BBQ meal was at BB King's joint on Beale St. The good news is that he said he had the best ribs ever, real tender and tasty. I know it's a touristy place but the food must be good.

    Anyone else eaten there?

Funny you bring this up today as I was wondering where your friend ended up. I have not eaten at his place, it is usually terribly crowded. And, as a local, we don't get downtown alot. Did he eat at the street level restaurant or at Itta Bena? Itta Bena is located upstairs, relatively new and has received rave reviews in our local paper.

Not sure Susan but I will ask him. Are they both called BB King's Blues Bar and Restaurant? That is where he said he ate.

Then he was most probably at the street level. I am glad he had fun!

Thanks Susan! My friend told me that his trip opened up a whole new world for him. His music background is country and rock and roll. The whole BLUES deal is the birth of both. He had a great time in Memphis! And... has a whole new of thinking. :~)
