OpenTable and POS Integration Fri, 12/3/10 3:51 PM (permalink)
I wanted to get some feedback from people or restaurant owners with restaurant experience using POS systems and Opentable together.  I'd like to get a godd idea of how Opentable communicates their reservations or information to POS software like Micros, Aloha, Aldelo or FuturePOS.

I understand that Opentable comes to your restaurant and installs their software on your terminal. They also add a restaurant server that connects to their main server which hold all the reservations made online. I have a couple of questions:

1. Does the restaurant server hold all the client information (reservations, client dining history, table analytics) or is the data held at Opentable servers and accessed like a cloud?

2. Does Opentale information even communicate with POS software ex: I make a reservation on Opentable.com and then your restaurant gets the reservation notification. Do you manually input that reservation into the POS system and assign them to a table at a certain time based on openings or does the data import?

3. Can you use Opentable without an additional server?

4. What are the basic monthly costs for the Opentable software and membership? (not per reservation, I know its $.25 & $1.00) An average cost basis for a high end restaurant like Aziza SF or Little Door average two diner slip $100-150.

5. Do restaurants have the right to cancel Opentable reservations if they get a big party or a high priced table walk in? How are guest compensated, what are the repercussions to the restaurant?

This will help me a lot in deciding on whether I want to go with Opentable or just add a reservation system to my site and bypass them.  I understand the marketing and promotional advantages of Opentable, but its still only a software for me that I can outsource and get built. This will keep it as  a one time cost instead of a monthly reoccurring bill cutting into my margins.

I apperciate everyone's feedback and help!

Thanks

Hi there, sorry can't help you on this integration, however you might be interested in using www.yumtable.com to organize gaps in your reservation system to post deals when you know you have low patronage and get new customers in the door. It's free to use for up to 20 sms bookings and you don't need any special equipment, so nothing to lose really.

You can tailor deals to suit your situation in real-time eg last minute cancellation, tues nights are always empty or you may simply be overstocked with a particular produce and offer a deal on that eg steak or fish. You can also set the number of tables and covers. You can also set offers as one-off or recurring, it's a neat tool to help you out.

    hope it helps.
