Opened for Business Mon, 05/17/10 10:11 AM (permalink)
Sorry, I have experienced some major computer problems. My office computer crashed, my home desk top caught a major virus and my laptop’s hard drive failed.
Any how we opened Friday a week ago for the first antique auction.  The crowd was OK but not great. Prior to the start of the auction it appears that we will have 20/30 regulars who will purchase hotdog/burger, side, drink and dessert every week. Individual sales continued throughout the evening. It really turned out to be a grand opening party. We gave away a lot of food to the people who had helped us. Last Friday was the general auction. The crowd was not so good. Sales were steady but not the same crowd as the antique auction. This week we have the antique auction Friday and an estate sale Saturday.
We are hoping for larger crowds as the auction grows. We also started looking at concession trailers. Craiglist is full of scammers. We did find one we want to look at this week. Seriously considering ordering a new one set up the way we want it.

Estate Auction is this at the residence. I have done well with these. Ask the antique dealers to provide you with names and numbers to their favorite Auction people. Reputation will get you to the bigger auctioneers. Nobodies don't get the good auctions.  They need to feed people. Just a few is a good start.
Call, set up fliers, mail them and contact later. We started small but they don't charge. Some carry on for two days.
Cars/Trks.  small trailers for antiques.  for as far as you can see. All personel items one day and land and machinery second.

First day we are there early. I mean early, before you think. Don't know your setup but coffee, juices, and donut/ pastries sell. these people have traveled a long way and good contacts for futher business. I've met some antique dealers from all over. Some have given me insite into how to pick and bid on what I want.

Hey you started. thats a plus. Big Plus
I don't do house auctions. waste of time here, maybe your area.

I noticed this as well as I am in the middle of my search for a concession trailer....Anyone else notice this? It just seems odd that the jerks are scamming trailers.

            Congratulations on the great opening!

kennyb is right on with his comment about CL scammers. Just get a feel for what you should expect to pay and find someone in that range. If it's too good to be true, it's gotta be!
