Ort.'s got a radio program!

Dearfolk,
Yup, I really do. It's Ort.'s Oldies Radio Problem, and airs Saturdays from 9:00 P. M. until 11 on WUOG (90.5) in Athens. The station streams online, so those of you who are in, say, Cucumber, West Virginia, can listen in to my prattle.
I do not make a habit of playing major hit records. That wouldn't be any fun.
Listen in if the spirit strikes you. Be forewarned.
Wholeheartedly, Ort. Carlton in Ever-Amazing Athens.

    I have WUOG bookmarked.

Ahh I hazily remember my days on the campus radio station Midnight to 3am Christian Hard Rock on Friday Nights and the OH GAWD ITS EARLY 5am to Noon Sunday.  I was the only one who got to play the extreme ends of the musical spectrum.  I LOVED THOSE DAYS

    Dearfolk,
To answer/pose questions: timespan is primarily 1965-1972, but nowhere near limited to that; requests are great if I can find the record in the mess that is my house; and CajunKing...did you ever play Judee Sill's "Jesus Was A Crossmaker" on your show? That's one of the most stunning things ever recorded.

    Dearfolk,
My records are pulled for tonight's show on WUOG (90.5 FM). We stream online, BTW. Since tonight marks the 20th. anniversary of the passing of my friend Melissa, I've procured some records to play for her. I know she'll be listening; I hope y'all will, too: 9:00 P. M. - 11:00 EST.

    Hey Ort...

I'll listen to your radio show IF you listen to mine...!!!

Have you ever played "Mooseturd Pie" by Utah Phillips...???

I'm still keeping the spirirt of KFAT-Gilroy, alive and well...we invented what is now called "Americana" radio back in the mid 1970's...free range DJ's doing free form radio (a hand-me-down concept from KMPX & KSAN)...and KMUD-FM is online...you can also listen to music programs up to 2 weeks in the Awsome Audio Archives before it's deleted (public affairs programs stay in the Archives longer)...

See the post "Interesting Radio Show" elsewhere here in "Off Topic"...

We may (or maynot) be doing something similar:

    MUSIC:..Tubby Tunes Radio Show

    TALK:.....The Homestead Radio Show

I'm pulling music for tomorrow's radio show...it will be an eclectic mix...hope you like it...

    BelleRive,
I do have that 45, but heaven knows where it is. I'll prowl through the available "M" box and see if it's there.
I also have the follow-up, "Meet Me Tonight By The Postage Machine." That one was a stiff.

    Back Rhodes,
I'll listen if I can borrow the library's headphones! (I still don't have a computer at home.)
The "Americana" format was also pioneered by WPAQ-AM in Mount Airy, N. C. in 1948. The station is still on the air, still operated by descendants of the original owner, Ralph Epperson, who passed in 2006, and still true to its original mission.
Another such station was WXGI in Richmond, Virginia, which is no longer on the air. That station was strictly traditional country, blue grass (TWO words!), and old time music, and did not accept advertising from chain stores! WXGI was still on the air into the early 1980's from its 1947 beginning.

Hey Ort! I'm listening right now for the first time. I love your delivery! You won't hear anything like that on Hot FM... Great obscure 60's stuff, right up my alley.

You mentioned WPAQ. There's another station like that in the Hudson Valley NY, WHVW 950. Unfortunately they do not stream, but I try to listen any time I'm on the NY Thruway heading upstate. A totally wierd mix of Rockabilly, Western Swing, Folk, Old Blues, Big Band and all the stops in between. It's like the last 50 years never happened.

    Good luck with the show.

The good news is that there has also been a few good tunes released within the last 50 years that are also worth listening  to...such as "Mitch Woods and the Rocket 88's"...

You might want to check your TV schedule for the "Jeff Beck Honors Les Paul" program that has been running lately...(I think it was PBS, if you have access)

Good tunes remain good tunes, no matter what the year is / was...

    Dearfolk,
Let me second the greatness of WHVW in Hyde Park, N. Y.!!
The radio show continues. Tomorrow (11th.) I sub in for D. J. Mahogany's "Flowers In The Attic" from 6:00 P. M. until 8:00 and will do straight radio; an hour later, the fun begins anew with my show. Tune in or tuna fish.

    Dearfolk,
I'm still on the air here, if sporadically. This upcoming weekend, I'll be on 90.5 FM, WUOG, Athens, Saturday, October 5 from 6:00 to 7:00 P. M., then D. J. Mahogany does the honors for three hours, then I return at 10:00 P. M. until Midnight... sort of a John R. split, if anyone remembers the GREAT John Richbourg from WLAC in Nashville, Tennessee. I'll be spinning nothing but vintage vinyl. Tune in if you dare. HOO-hah!
          Spins-And-Needlesly, Ort. Carlton in 30601-land.
    P. S. We are on stream.
