Outdoor shading for my restaurant

Hi, I am trying to find the best way to shade my outdoor patio for my restaurant. I feel it is necessary to have some nice shading outside with some plants to give an authentic dining experience. Does anyone have an recommendations for shading and what to use (awnings, wood, aluminum). I hope someone can shed some light from prior experiences. I am out here in California and shading is vital here. Thanks, Matt

I've always enjoyed a trellis type cover. You can plant grape vines or ivy hang plants and lighting from the top. This also would stand up for many years, low mantianice and should be under code. Chow Jim
