Outrageous Boss behavior you've seen

I've had a few REALLY crazy ones.
Norm, he owned a Headhunting firm I was with for a while. He and his live in boyfriend, ran the show in Marina del Rey. He would come into the office screaming and yelling, cursing, red faced angry, at what, who knows, then all of a sudden he would break into a song , "Over the Rainbow" while turning circles with his index finger on the top of hi head, like a needle. Other times he would run around grabbing everyon's phone from their ears and hang up, then scream, LUNCHTIME, and take the entire office to a very expensive Restaurant and buy endless bottles of very expensive Wines, along with anything on the menu, we would get REALLY drunk and no one would show up for work the next day, he didn't give a damn!
Got some others too, lets hear about yours first!

Family firm..but a Big one..like $100 million, almost.  Father, retired President but there every day. President, his daughter, VP production, his son, VP Finance, the son-in-law(only one worth his salt).  Mother would often sit in on staff meetings.  Daughter wold call mtgs on the fly, keep pulling more and more ppl into them, most of whom were just sitting around twiddling their thumbs......then we ALL would sit there for 15-20 mins while she took a phone call from her 6 year old son

I worked for a chiropractic firm as their marketing manager; in addition the chiroprctor owned rental properties and I was the manager of said properties.I would get calls from We Energies about someone stealing power, so I had to meet them at the site. Mind you, the calls came in to me thru the business, so no problem. The wife of the Doc would follow me to make sure i was doing what I said I was( co workers told me this) Also, as his marketing manager, I would spend days on the monthly chiropractic news letter for patients, preview it with him only to be told, at printing, he wanted to use old news letters 12 years prior. He didnt want to move forward, and was the worst micro manager ever. That was my brother-in-law.LOL!

I'm the best boss I've ever had. Worst? I'd have to say Bob Moss, a co-owner of WBNB television on St. Thomas, whose last order to me was to not go to the airport to cover a plane crash because it would be bad for tourism.

I have never ever had a bad boss although I saw examples  of bad behavior.  Our company wa bought by Revlon in 1977.  We were brought to New York at the GM building where we were introduced to the heads of Revon which were totally New yorkers.  We we brought into this beautiful conference room where the VP's and above were introduced to us.  As we begin to make our presentations, our VP of operations began and was interruped by one of the higher ups and he begin to degrade our operations, our VP tried to explain and he immediately indicated if he did not improve, he would plant his size 13 up his A--.  Welcome to the corporate world.  I never saw him again and I think he got fired.

Ever since then, everything was outstanding. I lasted a total of 45 years before retiring.

Long ago I worked for a company that had four owners. I saw three of them day to day. One had a crazy dysfunctional personality, he could be the funniest guy on earth and then be the devil. He yelled at me one day, truly yelled  in my face and swore at me with every word possible for several minutes. He was red in the face and all puffed out then suddenly he stopped and told me a joke! He was really a sweet man but just went crazy now and then. I have a hundred stories about him alone. Now I am retired.

The one that let me go and then begged me to come back this December for the Christmas season.  As if!

When I worked in a candy shop the owner made me dust off the chocolates with a sable paint brush to remove any bloom that might have formed.

She also made me reuse the little papers used to pick up the candies that were used before disposable gloves came about.  I'd have to reuse them until they were almost falling apart.

I worked there in the 70s.  I bet she'd still have me wearing the very first pair of disposable gloves.

In another place, a bagel/snack shop that I almost bought and frequented every morning one of the offerings was a tortellini salad.  Boiled prepared tortellini in a milk and fresh garlic sauce.

Every other morning the owner would put all the remaining tortellini salad in a commercial collender, wash off all of the sauce and add those tortellini to the new salad she'd prepare.    ICK!

I thought I had a bad boss until I started reading this thread. My last office job was as the receptionist/accounts receivable/accounts payable for a local pest control place. My boss was VERY old school, and called me his "office girl" rather than my name to my face. He also used to lecture me on wearing pants, because that could lead to impure thoughts on the part of our customers (as if we got a lot of walk-ins). One day he asked me if I would mind running out to pick up some flowers for his wife (who technically also worked there, but I never saw her do a lick of work) because she was "in her monthlies".

    I lasted about four weeks.

My Brother used to be a Sous Chef at one of La Jollas finest and well known restaurants!  I was contracted by the owner to paint the kitchen for them but it had to be done of course after hours which meant around midnight or so............
Anyway.......... in order obviously to paint the entire kitchen I had to move things around off of shelves in order to paint behind them!  When doing so I found literally 100s of dead roaches (live ones too) and 100s of mouse turds!  I almost gagged!
In every corner I painted it seemed as if I would find more and more of the roaches and mouse turds!
As well as that I also had seen cooks in the kitchen drop meat on the floor, pick it up, wipe it off on their aprons and stick it in the pan.
Employees hygeine was also an issue!
Once while using the mens room one of the cooks came out of the toilet after conducting his business and didnt even bother to stop by the sink to wash his hands!

You mean like the time I was in London eating at a Middle Eastern place in Sheprheards Bush when "nature called".I walked down the stairs to the LOO carefully, not wanting to upset the already prepared salad plates that lined one side of the staircase

I moved to California in 1971 after accepting a position as an "Account Executive" with a privately held firm that specialized in putting together Tax Shelters for Doctors. We also sold Life Insurance. Peter the owner was very early 30's, I was 25 and a good Salesman. Peter was the most intense man I've ever met, he was boderline crazy, imho, he refused to pay any attention to stop lights or signs. He was convinced he could talk anybody into anything, he could literally be hypnotic, one night at a client dinner, a potential big client, we had dinner at a place in Jack London Square in Oakland. At the end of the night he gave the waitress a Library Card instead of a Credit Card, she said Mr. Traynor, this is a Library Card, he said I know it is, TAKE IT, she did! He loved to do crap like that, make it hot for people, then cackle and walk away. He ended up in prison!

I quit without having anything else lined up...figured something would fall into my lap. Turns out it did. My last day there was a Friday, and the following Wednesday I worked my first show for the stagehands' union. Where I've been ever since (16 years this month, actually).

How the heck did you get into IATSE so quickly? In New Haven, if you weren't related to the business agent you might, if you had friends, get to work on a permit for a few years and then get in.

My local is run a LOT differently from many others. I started working in January 1996, got my card in March 1998, and took office for the first time in January 2001. We may be small (115-ish members), but we mean business.

A number of years ago, I went to work for a Fortune 500 company as the Director of Manufacturing Engineering.  My boss, whose name was Hermes, was the VP of Manufacturing.  On my first day at work, my boss and I visited with one of our major suppliers.  The guy we met with was acting like a jerk and my boss quietly got up, stood over the guy, placed his hands flat on the desk and said, "I am a Turk.  I will cut out your heart and drink your blood." The meeting went pretty well after that.  BTW, my boss was a devout Catholic whose uncle was, at that time, the Caldean Patriarch of Babylon. Hermes was a warm and caring person...... most of the time.  He taught me to not suffer fools, gladly.

Mine didn't cook the books (much) or anything like that but they sure stretched the line on ethics. I could not morally work for them anymore knowing what I did so I worked out the door. Found a much better happier job that I stayed with until I retired.
