I am sad, as at the tender age of 52, I have developed a violent allergy to any type of shellfish........

Old thread, I know, but I was saddened to find oysters in short supply this season. Reason is all the flooding along the Mississippi River. Too much fresh water ruining the brackish water the oysters need. Prices are way up.

The BP oil spill has also hurt this year's Shrimp catch.  All that oil and all that crap to solidify the oil and make it sink.  That is where the SHRIMP are at you MORONS @ BP and EPA.

Hoepfully the Oyster and shrimp Bidness will return like it was, but it will not be for a while.

Be sure to ask in the store where the shrimp are from. We are seeing a lot of crap from Thialand. Our Gulf shrimpers need the business.

Those Thailand shrimp are questionable - they look like shrimp but they don't taste like shrimp.  We're very fortunate right now to have Gulf Shrimp at our stores and they taste great.
As for fresh Gulf Oysters I've only seen them once this season - $7.00 for a half pint container.

The fresh Texas gulf shrimp in the stores now are expensive. $19.95 pound @ Wholefoods. But, delicious!

I was in NOLA 12-4 to 12-7 & tried to eat as much fresh seafood.  We had raw & char grilled oysters at ACME.  They were so so but the best soup I ever had was the oyster Rockefeller soup.

Cooter Brown's had the freshest, largest reasonably priced oysters I have ever had in NOLA.  The shrimp poboy taught me what fresh shrimp should taste like.  The best in NOLA & true roadfood..,

Just back from NOLA (12.10-12.16) and second the Acme Oyster House recommendation. Superb oysters on the half shell, grilled, and in the Oysters Rockefeller soup.
