Pa and Ma's BBQ

In a past issue of Road Food . There was a rest. call Pa and Ma's. It was in Indianapolis Indiana. It has been a few years since we have made it there. We are planning to be in the area over the weekend. I am unable to find any info on line about the rest. (yellow pages, or on this site) I am no too surprised about this because I dont think they had a phone the last time we were there. The ribs and pulled pork were Killer! They even had their bbq sauce professionally bottled for sale in their rest. They were located on 27th street off of Martin Luther King. Anyone know if their still lighting to coals at this joint?

Pa and Ma's sauce used to bottled by the same co-packer that did mine. I can contact the co-packer and find out if they have any further info on them. BTW, I was in Indy last January and looked up Ma and Pa's (as I recall, they were listed both ways in the phone book), although they were listed, when I called there was either no answer, or I got the mystery recording giving no further information. Let me see what I can find out.

Buddy, I will love you forever if you can help me with this. I was a little concerned they would not be there any longer. Have you ever been to the place? It is in a very interesting area... It is a little "corner store" I still cant fig. out how Jane and Michael ever found it. Margaret

Looks like Uncle Vic beat me to the punch. He's got more specific info than I do, too. On the other hand, my info is more an the "inside scoop" nature. Apparently, the original Ma & Pa's (or Pa & Ma's if you prefer) sold the business about four or five years ago. There are still two locations in the Indianapolis area each owned by a different family. The information I have says that both locations are still going strong. My co-packer still makes the sauce for the original Pa & Ma's family. It is sold in the greater Indy market.

Wow ! Thanks for the info. I thought it was a long shot to get the info I needed. When I posted I was thinking it was a waste of time. You Both sure showed me! I cant thank you enough. We are going to stop at P & M this weekend. I will report back. I am sure we are going to get a great meal. I am pleasantly surprised at this web site and crew who keep it flowing( the usual suspects who post daily and keep the home fires burning). My husband introduced me to road food 17 years ago. We have kept up to date with all new publications and I have spend many a hour doing reasearch on the site before our trips. I never took the time to explore the site. I am glad to be here and look forward to learning everything I can from youall. Margaret

Margaret, I have fond memories of spending many summer days back in the 1940's at Whitmore Lake. My grandparents had a summer cottage there up to about 1950 when they moved the syummer place out to Brighton. As a Californian (then) Michigan was an very exotic green place ! Welcome to the site. Let us know if you try both of these BBQ places..I am curious how they are doing these days, under'new' management AL

It seems like everyone I meet has some connection to Whitmore Lake. It is a small world!
