Hi all
Al-the-Mayor Bowen asked me about my recent trip to Jungle Jim in Fairfield OH. I thought I'd posted about that day quickly and later post a longer message about the overall trip which took us to Western PA, various parts of OH and through WVa.
We's stayed in Lebanon at the Golden Lamb the night before and had yummy pancakes and french toast before heading out to JJ's. Found it with little problem and got a good parking space. Our mistake came when we walked passed the greeter sitting near the entrance. I had to go back a hour later and get the map!! Yes an hour! We were there a toal of three! I'm sure it would have been less if we'd got that map first off or had some other native guide.
We picked out a bunch of odd beers for a beer tasting (Kelpie Beer - flavored with seaweed!). Found some hard cider that friends have been looking for - Strongbow. Sampled cheese & sausage and picked out some for trip and for Dad back home (resulting in having to buy a bag of ice each day to keep things cold).
We made our way through the bakery and meat section (yes, the calfs heads were a little freaky!) I bought some quick breads to take to my husbands family - pumpkin and aplle cinnamon, both very good. I've also still got some rosemary bread to try - kinda forgot I bought it as I put it in a different bag for the other pershiables.
Finally we found the International area and really got down to business - scoring the shelves for irish and english goods (I noticed they were kept far apart

). We found that we can get most of the things available at JJ's at a shop in downtown Hampton VA - Best of Britain. So we didn't pick up as much as we thought we might - HP sauce, some ginger biscuits (cookies), Cadbury chocolate and a different version of the tea we usually drink - Barry's.
And they don't have *EVERYTHING*! No Diet RT. 66 root beer, no Northern Neck ginger ale (from VA), and chocolate croissants (the thread on european breakfasts has me craving one!).
After escaping for under $200, we made our way to Saigon Dragon. Odd combination of oriental food (chinese, vietnamese, thai) and mexican.
Loved the red & gold banners with the reindeer saying "Happy Christmas!" We had dumplings and bien thit nuong (I've probably spelled that wrong), a pork dish seasoned with various toasted nuts and cilantro. Forgot to try the coffee with coconut milk.
more on the trip when I'm not at work.
