Password Database

If you are like me, you have too many passwords to remember. I just got locked out of my online banking system because I couldn't remember the frigging PW I reset only last week. Having had enough of THAT, I found a nice little FREE PW saver program here: http://www.moonsoftware.com/pwagent.asp There is a full-version model @ a $$ but the significance from the free one is so slight that even a caveman ( ) could manage the differences. This is not the "Gator" thingee of the past, BTW. Being endorsed by PC WORLD and others surely helped me to be convinced to D/L this small app (1.5mb) program also. Hope I have helped at least a few. Best regards to all for the remainder of this Memorial Day Holiday. --JDK--

I use a word processor table to manage my passwords. I made a table with three columns - first one for the website, second one for the user name, and third for the password. I named the document file "registrations," and could password protect it, but have never felt the need to do so. This might not be the answer for everybody, but it works for me.

Personally I use an index card file (have used a rolodex in the past. I figure if my PC crashes I don't want to loose it & I don't trust the possibilty of being hacked. I just list the site name & userID & passwrd, I can also cite other info on the card.

That's the way I USED to do it also. Between work & home; I must have thirty or so different sets of same. Some of mine change every 15 days or so (not MY choice). Oh well.

Or, like me, you could buy a cheap telephone/address book from "the dollar store". This allows me to list websites alphabetically, with the appropriate user name and password for each. By writing in pencil, I can change the information whenever necessary. And, it is ultimately portable! Normally, it sits beside my home PC. If I am going to travel, it goes in my carry-on bag. This is simplicity itself, and I don't have to worry about a computer crash wiping out my record of passwords. Sometimes a low-tech solution can actually be the most effective approach.

Because of the nature of my work, I have to keep a lot of this information available and portable. Using a thumb drive and a free ware product called Truecrypt I can carry everything I need and it's safe if I lose it.

According to WordSpy.com, this is known as Password Fatigue.
