Paul Gordon, GFS passes.

Gordon Food Service was started here in Grand Rapids.. It's spread out as far south as Florida now. I've always enjoyed their prices and service. I remember doing an all you can eat spaghetti dinner at a sports bar I managed (Month long deal for March Madness). Ask the salesman for his opinion on which would be the best sauce to use.. He told me to hang on and would get back to me. The next day, he brings me 10 #10 cans and 2 pouches of sauce to sample (all at no cost). Went beyond the call of duty, and not trying to sell me the top shelf item for his commission.. It's these little things they do that makes you appreciate doing business with them. A similar deal happened when I wanted to sample their pizza sauces (canned). No charge and lined up for my inspection. With todays costs, not sure if they still do this, but it wouldn't surprise me if they did. But the backbone to these employees was Paul Gordon, 3rd generation family of GFS. He took care of his employees and it showed. Sadly, he passed earlier this week. http://www.woodtv.com/Global/story.asp?s=8282724 The GFS family has created a website in his memory: http://www.gfspaulgordon.com/

I'm lucky to have A GFS locally. Some great finds there, especially the spices for cheap. Unfortunate passing.
