Haven't read the book, but I've eaten at Mike Mills' 17th Street Barbecue in Murphysboro, Illinois. Good, but not great. Nice guys who run the place though. We swapped sauce and they gave me a coffee mug, too. There's some outstanding 'Que down in southern Illinois, in and around the Shawnee National Forest. Beautiful country down there. Mrs. Roadhouse and I camped down there a few years back; exploring the sights by day and devouring Barbecue at night. For five straight nights. I was in Heaven. Mrs. Roadhouse had a good time too. i have the book and find it to be well worth the price. what i like best about it are the interviews. it gives a rare insight into the mindset of the great pitmasters (which is not to say the most famous but rahter the ones i con sider atrisans of the craft). it also keeps the fire burning in my belly when i get down. strange as it seems cooking "que" 6 days a week can get old. the book keeps me from falling into a "cook by numbers" mindset. jack another good read is "on food and cooking" by mcgee.
