Pearson's in NYC

Does anyone know for sure if the Pearson's Barbeque on E. 81st St. in Manhattan is closed for good? I went there a few weeks ago and a sign was on the door saying that they were moving to a new location in midtown. But a couple of days ago, I spoke to a good source that said the guy running it moved out of the city. Say it ain't so!! They had some of the best brisket in town!

They are definitely gone. I called them & got thru to a sister restaurant that they have in the city (not BBQ, I forgot the name). They seem to be gone for good. Too bad, but the last tiome I was there, it was positively awful, and they used to be the best in NYC, when they were still in Queens. Sad. Amazing that The Ranger has actually outlasted Pearson's (The Ranger is OK, but every single menu item is a step down in quality from when they still were Pearson's, and I fear I will never have Texas Beef as good as Pearson's again (it's now a major step down, but still better than most in NYC).

I live up the street and it is gonna be an Italian restaurant. Artetsky still owns it I believe. Couldn't happen to a nicer group of guys. Gave me change for a hundred with 74 ones and were incredibly rude. When it was Butterfield 8, I went there all the time.

yeah, i always felt that the local enthusiasm for Pearson's was primarily due to the miserable competition in the city.

The Manhattan location of Pearsons was truly great when it first opened. The decline started soon after. My last meal there (about 6 months ago) was absolutely awful.

Sometimes when restaurants close, it's a good and just thing (like Rocco's 22).

I never got to the one in Manhattan, mostly because several people don't me not to bother...but I really enjoyed the one in Queens.

That sucks! The barbecue was real, even if not the best. I thought the ribs were good. But I enjoyed the ambience, especially the giant photos of bbq places in Texas. On a winter day, there's nothing better than looking at those pictures and dreaming about summer. I definitely looked at the place as a treat.
