Penny Candy in New Jersey

I gre up in the 50's on brown bags of penny candy..and I remember dozens of varieties for our greedy moths. Many places carry modern varieties af a small number of these. I'm in NJ. Is there a store that has a large variety of loose penny candy like the old days.
Also, what was your favorite Penny Candy?

There are a lot of sites that you can Google that sell old-fashioned candy and I have found a lot of "oldies" candy at the Dollar Tree.

My fav. (and still is) is Atomic Fireballs and Astro Pops (no longer made).

Ok,so I am not from the 50's, but I still love penny candy. When I was in catholic grade school in NJ, we would get out at noon on Wednesdays. Most of the entire school would walk to the local library, and on the way there was this tiny, dark, corner store where penny candy was sold. The woman behind the counter must have been 80, and if you asked for a dollar worth of gummy fish or red hot dollars, she would count out 100 of them v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y. Ot seemed to take forever, when in reality it was probably just a couple of minutes. There would be a line of kids out the door, and when you left, they all looked at you with a mix of anger and longing, lol. Just two years ago the owner passed away and they tore down her store. I'm still a little sad.

If you go to Vermont Country Store they have a bunch of the penny candy that you cant get in stores such as chocolate babies and a bunch of others. I usually order the malted milk balls and chocolate babies yearly to treat myself. Take a look at their website and go under candy counter. They also have others out of the candy counter which you cant get in stores. Its pretty reasonable as they give you 2 one pound bags for $9.90 plus shipping.

I can give you a much better value than The Vermont Country Store!

Since the OP lives in NJ, I would suggest that he visit the nearest location of Bob's Discount Furniture in order to avail himself of their free penny candy bar. And, before anyone criticizes this suggestion, the company actually suggests that people can stop in just to help themselves.

Of course, if too many people make pigs of themselves, then this policy will go the way of the Dodo bird. But, for those who are not greedy, this is a nice way to pick up a few pieces of penny candy without charge. And, if you buy some furniture, it will help to ensure that the policy is retained!

There is a penny candy store in Chester NJ in the parking lot by Sally Lunns' tea shop. The candy is in big barrels - lots of good memories surrounding all the choices.
