Pepper Steak Bullet Mon, 01/18/10 1:02 AM (permalink)
The Pepper Steak Bullet from Krazy Jim's is enough to make me want to head out to Ann Arbor despite the fact that it's enemy territory for an Ohio State fan. But I'd skip the ranch dressing.

Can anyone explain how normal human beings can allow ranch dressing to exist, let alone allow it to be consumed by sentient beings?

I won't be at the same table with the stuff, and I prefer to not be in the same room with it.

Smells like a loaded diaper to me, and THAT'S not something I want on or around my food.

Some years ago, someone (maybe even I) posted an article at RF with the title "The Ranchification of America". It bemoaned the application of that vile soup to an ever increasing number of food items, including entrees.

      It's the new "ketchup".

By the way, made-from-scratch Ranch dressing, with real buttermilk, etc, is actually good.

I have a motto that I like to use, - I Make Food You Can Wear.
        That burger qualifies.

I have been making many hamburger specials based on what I read about in Roadfood. I have some very thin patties in the freezer waiting for use and have been working out a triple decker like this.  No onion rolls here, and our pepper steak has mushrooms in it, so I would also add them. I too am not a Ranch fan, maybe I'll just put in on the side.

I have made a multitude of scratch salad dressings, but I actually think that I have made from scratch Ranch only once. I am very good at opening containers on that one....

rinsing out an empty ranch dressing bottle for recycling is almost  like chipping concrete.
          and we eat that stuff?

I am not a person who supports putting ranch dressing on everything from pizza to pickles but I cannot deny that it is good on somethings. Just last night at Zingerman's Roadhouse in Ann Arbor I had a very good jalapeno heated ranch dress that I dipped some incredible fried cheese curds in.

I have never understood the Ranch thing either. Young people put it on everything. I tried it on Pizza once and it was horrible...Russ

I'd skip the Ranch Dressing also.  I bet some fresh horseradish and a bit of Tiger Sauce would be good.  ;)

I agree the burger looks amazing.

Ranch dressing...I can't explain it. I liked it in the 80's when they would call it house dressing. I do like it, but I would never dip pizza in it.

Far be it from me to disparage white viscous fat (Ranch has more fat than any dressing other than pure oil), but I agree that most versions are ghastly. As MiamiDon notes, it can be good if it's got a buttermilky tang and enough onion-garlic zip. And who could not be a little bit fond of a salad dressing brand owned by Clorox?
