Permits for Festivals? Tue, 01/17/12 6:29 PM (permalink)
Hey folks,

Been lurking for a while as I wade through the myriad of paperwork required here in NC to get a cart on it "wheels" so to speak.  I'm pretty close to getting up and running, but I have a question.  Outside of my regular spot, I would like to do festival work this spring.  These might be outside my home county or even outside of NC.  How does that work from a permit standpoint?  Right now I have a foot peddler permit for the two towns that I will be in, my commissary is in another town close by, but what if I want to go down to SC and do a festival there for a weekend?  No one in our local gov't seems to know the answer, and honestly I may not be asking the right question.  Is a permit even necessary?  Thanks for any input.

If you have been lurking for anytime at all, most of the replies to questions seem to be go ask your health dept. Check with the HD in the town where the festival will be at. Now down here in the badlands of New Mexico, if you have a yearly permit, your suppose to notify the HD to where your going giving them a 24 hour notice. If you have a temp permit, you must submit a application 10 days before the festival starts. Now, when I go to Texas, I have a yearly health permit. BUT, if I go into a county with a health inspector, that inspector can over rule the states rules. Not all counties in Texas has health inspectors. I would hope SC would have you have some type of permit.

Yes, Permit needed through local HD at each event......HD does show up and inspect and then you are fined for not having if you don't have...... so you might as well get the permit and not ruine your reputation.........and you'll still have to pay for permit after you pay fine......so you might as well get the permit....

Contact the HD in the city that the event is in, tell them that you are bringing your cart for xyz event, they will let you know what is required.
As Tater stated, make sure you have your permits in to them by the required time, or face stiff late fees.

Also check with the event promoters. I know that in Georgia if the event is being sponsored by a local municipality or non profit group then you are exempt from having to get a permit.  I did over 18 events last year in Georgia and only was required to get permitted at one.

Yeah call the HD where the event is taking place at.  I just had to do the same thing and all i had to do was print some forms from there website fill them out with a copy of my local hd inspection and mail it to them and they will send me a permit for the event.

It varies so much from state to state, county to county, town to town, the only way is to contact the event promoter to get your answers. If they can't answer, I'd be suspect of going to that event
