Do you tip your pet groomer, if so, how much?

I have a friend that is a mobile groomer.... She gets pretty bent when there is not a tip on top of the grooming fee....I think 10-15%.....

Cat does not go to the groomer because in the process both the groomer and I would be shredded by cat. But if I ever had to take cat, I would tip more than the grooming bill out of pity for the groomer. Kitty is very nice but has some viscious claws.

Tip the groomer? Really? Don't most groomers own the business? My dogs don't get groomed so I'm totally in the dark about this.

We have a Westie which gets groomed with nail clipped also about three times a year, I try to tip $10 which is 30% of the $30 tab. My in-laws tip for nearly every thing. My MIL tipped the cable tech twenty bucks today for coming out and fixing the cable box.

Bo was groomed the last month of his life-thanks to Bobs sister Karen. He was a red haired golden with eye lashes to match. He came home with a cool scarf around his neck( he hated it) But he looked so pretty. He knew we loved his new look, and died knowing we loved him absolutely.

We don't have our dog professionally groomed either. When I see all the work my daughter puts into keeping our Teddy well groomed, I would definately tip if we took him to a pro. Teddy's a pomeranian, though, lots of brushing involved before and after his bath!

I always took my dog to a groomer because he was very aggressive and hard to handle when he was in panic mode. My groomer, on the other hand, thought he was sweet and never had trouble with him. THAT was worth a tip to me. I have gone to several groomers over my dog's life time and none of them owned the shop. It wouldn't have mattered because I considered it a blessing that anyone would put up with that obnoxious dog so they always deserved a tip.

My Dad told me about 75 years ago that one never tips the owner of a business, and that one usually tips an employee in a service type business. I've followed that rule ever since... Cheers, John

I emailed my friend last night, this is her response...... With this economy, I am happy to get $5/dog/groom. The 15% rule does not seem to apply to grooming. Heck I have clients who tip $10 a dog...but they are the exception...but I LOVE them!!!

Someone must have published a suggested 'fee scale' for groomers. Ours raised their rates at the first of the year to $38.00 each, for dogs under 40 lbs. That makes a visit by the two Scotties $76.00. I will normally give a $5.00 tip (per dog) to the groomer . The owner seldom does our dogs, but she has several young groomers working in the shop. The Scotties get trimmed twice a year.

Roz takes our ugly dog "Angel" to the beauty shop twice monthly. The beauty shop is at our house and it takes Roz two hours to complete the job which includes bath, conditioner, Pet Armor, nail clipping and drying and finally several curry jobs. Does she get a tip? Sorta and in a way???? Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

We have a low maintenance dog - Bailey the Rat Terrorist- she has very short hair and usually gets a shower every week. We have a walk in shower and she actually likes getting in there and getting shampooed up and rinsed with the shower massage. After that she does about 7 laps around the den and finally settles on the sofa. The nail clippings don't go over as well as the shower - but she tolerates it okay. If I had to get her groomed I would most certainly tip the groomer - whether they were the owner or not.
