Philly Deli Dogs with Salami

I happened upon an article in Serious Eats about kosher deli hot dogs with salami in Philadelphia.  I don't think I've heard of this regional specialty here or elsewhere before.  Another dish for my to-eat list!

I'm familiar with the bologna wrapped hot dog, but I won't say no to salami!

They all look good. Some would be good on seeded rye bread!

Pumpernick's in Montgomeryville has 4 "Crazy Dogs" on their menu. I'll try either of these on my next visit:

Doesn't look like something I'd be interested in trying- I'll stick to my cheesesteaks, hoagies, soft pretzel's and roast porks

Now this is something I could eat. After having the "Hair of the Dog" at ManBitesDog this is something I could sink my teeth into.

If you come to Philly my favorites were definitely the Pastrami Dog (Nathan's brand) from Casino Deli, the Bologna Dog from Zeke's, and I was absolutely blown away by the dog from 4th Street Deli - all beef natural casing, not sure what brand. They make a pastrami dog as well that's amazing...  

I've been to all of those delis over the years, but have never had a hot dog at any of them. I always go for corned beef or smoked fish on a bagel. Maybe I'll change that next time.
 
I'll add that of the delis in those photos, Famous 4th Street is probably easily the best; but again, I can't comment on their hot dogs.
