Me too, me too. I liked that they let you order a burger the way you want it cooked, as I like mine medium-rare. Can't get that here.

I hope they are still there by the time I get back to San Rafael. That was a good looking burger.

I've even put on glasses and I still can't find a hamburger in the photo of a hamburger. All I see is bread, onion, something greenish, and God only knows what else.

Mr Hoffman, i enlarged the picture..the burger is covered with melted cheese and has what looks like undercooked bacon on top.

The next time I go to the Bay area the last thing I'll be looking for is a burger, unless it's in the form of ground beef in a New Joe's Special

I am so glad to see Phyllis' Hamburgers get a mention. I lived in San Rafael and they are kind of an institution, they served one excellent burger. They are great as they just keep the menu simple and do it right. For those who think it looks like too much, I think that he composed the burger especially so you could see the ingredients. But it is a pretty large burger when you get it anyway. I also like how the bacon looks. Phyllis' defines the regional differences of food in the U.S. While the east coast has pizza and hot dogs, the south its BBQ., in California, the hamburger is king. Ick13 or Hank Miller, whoever you are, are you living in or around Marin? If so, could I request that you check out Bubba's Diner? I used to work there many years ago and have soft spot for them. For a while they too had the distinction of being Best Burger. I suspect that the review would focus more on their breakfast. mark

I think that there should be a review for some of the Joe's style restaurants in general. They fill a similar niche that a diner does, that is, most folks know what to expect when they go in. The grill is busy. I watched them make the burgers by grabbing a handful of meat without weighing it(no portion control), forming it into a patty and flame on..! mark
