Picnic Menu

The weather here is cool and clear, perfect for a picnic. What are your favorite foods for a picnic? My stand-bys are fried chicken, pimento cheese sandwhiches and brownies. Help me add on or branch out, please.

Ah, summer sausage, trail bologna, cheese and crusty bread, plus some pears and grapes. Soft drinks for the kids and wine for the grownups. Make sure everyone has a knife to cut their own chunks of meat, cheese and bread (although I always prefer to tear off my pieces of bread), and some cups for the wine (unless your wine is in a bota), and you have a wonderful picnic.

Our picnics are always weiner roasts, we have them with our kids & grandkids, 17 in all as of Oct. 19th(newest grandaughter Evy). Menu: Weiners(of course), homemade hot dog chili, chopped onions, cole slaw(I am from WV, now a Hoosier). baked beans, macaroni salad, chips, s'mores for dessert. Over 44 years of married life, I would say we have have had several hundreds weiner roasts.

I'll go with Chewie..Add some other Deli-meats like Smoked-White Turkey (not rolled) and some Sugar-cured Ham...maybe some of the Honey-Baked variety. Make it crab-dip and whole shrimp to dip into it. Jalapeno Peppers stuffed with Tuna and creme cheese. Skip the wine for me, but be sure to have some of your Moxie and My Sprechers sodas on hand. I'll even go with the tacos for a followup...but make them from J-I-B not Taco Bell. No one mentioned WHERE to enjoy this outdoor celebration of life??? I would pick a sunny day in Zion National Park in Southern Utah for my first choice for a November Picnic. An alternate location for those not happy with the beauty of the High-Desert Red Rocks of Zion, could be a quiet beach location on Mobile Bay, AL. or perhaps Tybee Island ,GA

Pipestem State Park in West Virginia, Zaleski State Firest in Ohio. Oh, and just about any place you can beach a canoe in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area.

My favorite picnic was the bank of the Snake River north of Jacksonhole, south of Yellowstone. Cold cuts picked up at one of the federal stores and blackberries picked from the side of the road.

This thread made me laugh. My mother has an unusual sense of adventure, her idea of a picnic day was snow showers or blowing cold. My sister and I both have pictures of us as kids under a space blanket freezing our arses off eating sandwiches or KFC. As for picnic fodder: Sliced deli meats and cheeses with good bakery bread deli sliced cheese carrot sticks (baby carrots now) ranch dip husmann's bbq chips

Jacksonhole is nice in the winter. I'd have to add a Thermos of hot cocoa.

We did some winery picnics this year. My favorite was the messy, foggy spring afternoon we drove up the side of a mountain to Stone Ridge. Our picnic included: smokehouse cheese, summer sausage, homemade cookies, olives, Triscuits, little pesto tomato and provolone sandwiches and a glass of crisp white wine. So nice in front of a fireplace with friends! Growing up, my mother would make ham and cheese on white, grab a bag of Doritos and a package of cookies and Cokes and we'd chow on the waterfront at Lake Barkley. I miss that!
