Pig-N-Whistle (TN)

Last weekend I had a chance to eat at Pig-N-Whistle in Millington, Tennessee. I don't claim to be a barbecue expert but I like what I like and I liked what I got here. I tried the ribs all 3 ways (dry, wet, muddy) and while all were good I'd have to choose the muddy (cooked wet and then dusted with rub prior to serving) style if I could have only 1. The meat wasn't mushy or fall-off-the-bone style and since I like a rib that takes a little work this scored points with me. My sides were green beans and barbecue baked beans and I found them to my liking as well.

About 45 or so of us just showed up there - apparently without advance notice - and took the staff by surprise but they handled our group well, so kudos to them for a job well done. Overall I think the general consensus was that we got some good barbecue at a good price.

You didn't try the fried pickles?

Sorry, I'm not much of a fan of fried pickles. I've had them before and just can't say that I like them, but I don't find them to be truly awful, either.

Aside from a lunch at The Neighborhood Bistro (formerly Mamma Mannero's) this was the only dining out I did while in Millington. Everything else was either the free hotel breakfast or something that somebody cooked up in a parking lot somewhere.

P & W's BBQ sauce is my favorite other than my own.

My dad used to hang out at the Pig-n-Whistle 40 years ago and loved it. I have eaten at the one in Bartlett and wish I remembered enough about it to write a review, I do remember it being very tasty. My cousin is a Bar-b-q judge and the P-n-W is one of his favorite restaurants FWIW.

The Pig-N-Whistle in Bartlet is going to be my first stop when I get to the land of the world's best BBQ.It will be three years this summer when I visited last.Counting the days?Yes it was that good.Grew up in Memphis never had a fired pickle,never sat at a table with anyone who ate a fried pickle?
 Will remember to Fed Ex myself some of the sauce before I go back west.
Will stand by that pig some time Tuesday.When I was there last there was a very fine bronze pig in front of the dining room.
