Any updates on places to eat in the area? Great places that are no longer there?

Have breakfast at Pancake Pantry in Gatlinburg.  There will be a line but it moves fast and is worth it.
We like pizza from the Smoky Mountain Brewery
If you are at the outlet mall and want a nice dinner the Chop House is in the parking lot.  A little $$$ but a nice place.
The Apple Barn and the Old Mill are the tourist favorites, both are essentially like Cracker Barrel in quality and price.  For a full review you can see my Trip Report "Illinois to South Carolina."  Enjoy, Todd C

In my opinion, the Apple Barn has gone way down in quality and way up in price  for very average (or below) meals.  Go there for the apple fritters, only.  They are delicious.

There was a place in Gatling burg that I have no idea if it's still there called Libby's. Just good homemade southern food, especially breakfasts. I think we ate there 3 times during our camping trip. Let us know what you find!

I'll second the Smoky Moutain Brewery.....
I would avoid the Apple someone else has said, it was no better then Cracker other words in my opinion it sucked.
The Apple Fritters were good, and they come with every meal.

I will agree on the Apple Barn comments.  Very poor meal the LAST time I ate there.  There was an Italian place in Gatlinburg that I ate at several years ago that had decent food.  I cannot remember the name but it is in the strip mall with the grocery store.

Best Italian, which has really good pizza. They moved from the rear of the mall to a space directly along the Parkway (IOW, right in front of the same mall.)
The Smokey Mountain Brewery  is a can't-miss choice for food.
The Old Mill is quite a bit better than Cracker Barrel, IMO. However, it's kind of a mass production factory. Their Pottery Cafe across the street is an excellent lunch stop and has a completely different menu and atmosphere and a delightful outdoor seating area.

I really enjoyed the Peddler. Good steaks that they cut right in front of you and a really good salad bar. The view out the window is also very nice.

Smoky Mountain Brewery is always good for pizza, New Orleans Sandwich shop is great,  Po Boys and red beans and rice. and for something quick, Jordans Village Creamery, its a really small place but they have great sandwiches and is very inexpensive.

Bear Creek Grill is nice.  Calhoun's has great BBQ.

Donut Friar. in the village is awesome. Hungry Bear Barbeque which is on east parkway, not right in town, hasnt been there too long ,better than any Ive had down there. Small place, not fancy at all. Just good food.

I am really saddened to hear that my long friend Bill Kilpatrick who started the Apple Farm complex has not met some of your expectations.  I have been there many times for breakfast which was outstanding and dinner with their fried chicken and other southern goodies.  All has been very good.
I spent six years in the ANG with Bill and his brother Joel and I was in Joel's wedding.  Both are extremely fine people and try very hard to please.  The Apple Barn complex is huge and perhaps is getting too large due to all the tourist bus traffic.  They have some many different stores in the complex that it is hard to choose.
Perhaps the larger you get, the easier you fail.  I will notify Bill Kilpatrick of some of your thoughts.  I suggest trying them again as I have done before with many other restaurants.
