Have fun! My coworkers and I used to go to Pizza John's all the time way back in the mid/late 80's when I worked in Middle River. I miss that place!

There was an unexpected death in my family this morning and I will now be out of town on Sat & Sun.

If you still get there, the pepperoni or meat sauce are the 2 best toppings.

I'm sorry for your loss Howard.

We could reschedule to July. Maybe the 14/15th?

Joanie, what say you? Wanna keep the day and time or reschedule?

Scorereader, I like the idea of July 15th -- Saturday is better than Friday for me most of the time.

And I think it would be nice to wait so that Signman can join us.

I really look forward to meeting you guys and eating good pizza!

It's still up in the air. I have some work I need to do for my performing arts company, which is for our summer arts camp that begins on Monday. I may be able to get it done today or I may need to be running from music store to music store tomorrow. I'll know by the end of the (work)day today. Sorry for being such a hold-out

Well, Signman, Scorereader, and I all met today at Pizza Johns in Essex, MD. Good pizza! I only wish it was closer to Columbia. I especially liked the way they did pepperoni: very small, thin slices which cooked up nice and crispy. I don't like thick-sliced pepperoni and this was really good. My veggie pizza was good as well. Prices are very reasonable.

And, the best part was meeting some of the Roadfood community in person! Scorereader and I went to the same small college in upstate NY, and we did a lot of reminiscing (sp?) about the happy times we spent up there. We all also had fun discussing other local restaurants that we liked in the area. I could happily sat there and gabbed all day, but alas, life and responsibility intruded.

We are also all excited about the upcoming crabcake feast in late August (discussed on a separate forum thread). I'm glad I'll get to meet more Roadfooders in the near future!

I second the pepperoni. The way they sliced it was perfect for pizza. Signman suggested the meat sauce and pepperoni pizza, which was a good choice. The meat sauce is ground beef mixed in the sauce, with cheese over it, then topped with the pepperoni. It was my favorite pie between that, the veggie and pepperoni w/mushroom.

While NY thin crust is still my favorite, when you're in Baltimore and looking for pizza, this is best the area has to offer. And, they have a decent wine selection, which I noticed would be good w/pizza and their subs looked nice as well.

Nice meeting everyone...I hope I can make the crabcake meet in August. I think I can, but not sure yet. It sounds like a TON of fun.

I had nice time and believe it or not, I enjoyed going over the Key Bridge (I-695) which may have been the only bridge in the whole mid-atlantic that did not have traffic. I know the bridges in DC area were a MESS this weekend, due to the closing of the old Wilson bridge and the opening of one (1) lane of the new Wilson Bridge.

    See you in August guys.

It was very nice to meet up with some fellow local area Roadfooders. Very glad that you enjoyed the pizza, as I have been saying for years that Pizza Johns is the best that you can find in the Baltimore area. I'll be finishing off the leftover slices for dinner tonight.
