Pizza to try in Chicago?

Hello all. I'll be in Chicago for a few days starting on Saturday, and whenever I'm there I try to eat (and bring back!) as much Leona's pizza as possible. I love the pizza there so much I would literally choose one slice of Leona's over five slices of any NYC pizza you could name. The place also happens to be a block from my in-laws' house, on the south side near the University of Chicago. However, I'm thinking that I should be adventurous and try something new this time. What would you suggest? Thanks, -Hugh

Connie's Pizza at 2373 S. Archer shouldn't be too far from you, the Special with a middleweight pan crust is always good.

I'm guessing you have no interest in the deep dish or stuffed style pizza that is attributed to Chicago?

Oh. Ok :-) I have only been to one of them, but it was really, really great. Giordanos. http://www.giordanos.com Yeah, I know it's a chain. Every now and then a chain does something well, as in this case :-) I had hoped to also hit Lou Malnati's while I was there, having heard so many good things about them, but failed to do so because of too many company-organized mandatory attendance dinners :-)

The BEST pizza in Chicago is my brother's homemade deep dish pizza. If you want, email me for the crust recipe.

I've said it before in other threads, I'll repeat it here with conviction: Burt's Place for the best Chicago style pizza in town. Burt uses all fresh ingredients including multi-colored bell peppers, and a variety of fresh mushrooms. Classic Roadfood ambience, too. Burt's is in north suburban Morton Grove, a pretty fair run from the U of C Hyde Park neighborhood. But if, as you say, you're interested in having an adventure, you will not be dissapointed! Take I-94 north out of the city to the Dempster Street exit, westbound. For more specific directions you can call them at (847) 965-7997. They're closed Mondays and Tuesdays.

By the way, I read that Post about you eating a McDonald's burger and thinking of me! For shame!!

Giordano's is a chain. *shrug* Chains can on occasion make a good product. I could name several, Pizza Hut being one, that fit this description from my point of view. quote:Originally posted by wanderingjew For shame!! *grin*

The Sundancer recoginizes that Giordanos is a chain but in my personal opinion, they are really great. When in Chicago, I usually stay at a Marriott facility in Rosemont and Giordanos is very handy. The wait for their deep dish is generally pretty long but it is worth it. I cannot consume even a small one. They are hot and with a salad, it is a huge meal. The last time I was in Orlando, I noticed that they had opened there. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN
