My apologies to the "Stones" for the Header

I live in the Metro Atlanta area now, but I am originally from a small town in East TN, near Knoxville. AND I LOVE TO EAT! LOL

I chanced across "Roadfoods" and it is a true gift. I am really poor at remembering names but I here are a few places of excellence that I can remember right off the top of my head.

TIME OUT DELI aka JERUSALEMS LOT- Knoxville, TN
Whenever I visit back home I have to go here. The best deli.... Period. They also specialize in Middle East/Lebanese foods. The King Solomons Chicken being one of my favorites.

Heberts Cafe in Houma, LA.

I hope they are still in business.... Last time I was there was 3 years ago. I have been going there since 1978. Wonderful lunch menu,serving good traditional Cajun and and seafood. The Catfish Hebert is to die for.

Finchers BBQ Macon, Ga. I only go to the one on Houston Ave. It is the original and the best. Good Pork BBQ with a vinegar sauce. Brunswick Stew will make you "smack yo mama"

My brother and I have hit just about every small mom and pop Lobster Pound/restaurant in Maine..... But I cant remember a darn one of them by name. I do remember one in Biddeford Pool that was exceptional.

Pizza... Big Ed's in Oak Ridge, TN and Mama Mia's in Kingston, TN. I will have to give Mama Mia's the nod.

French Frys, The Katahdin Inn in Millinocket, Me. I know, I know, ALL THE FRENCH FRYS IN MAINE ARE GOOD.. But these..... A huge dish of frys, covered in cheddar cheese and then topped with brown gravy....

Seafood.. Florida... The Hut, in Apalachicola. It just dont get no fresher than this people. It is located just west of downtown on the outskirts of the "city". Dont waste your time on the tourist restaurants downtown.
I camp at St. George Island State Park every year and the first thing I do is buy a bushel bag of oysters before I cross over to the Island. "I like to help pathe the park with oyster shells"

East Podunk is an imaginary town similar to Bum **** Egypt. I dont know, maybe that is an E.TN saying. If it makes you feel better, I live in the metropolis of Dallas, Ga.

Welcome Pogo; you live right up the road from me...seriously. And I've always heard of Podunk, East Podunk, etc. I also think it's a polite way of sayin East Bum**** Egypt! By the way, if you can't get near any salt water, they have "close enough" seafood at the Bay Breeze Seafood over in Mableton, Veteran's Memorial Highway (same thing as Bankhead if you've been here a while). I kept hearing people carry on about it and was pleasantly surprised....Anyway, howdy from a neighbor.

I would have assumed that East Podunk, GA was near Waycross...

East Podunk is very close to Knoxville just right past West Jockstrap, New Guinea.

By the way, Knoxville could improve its roadfood places.

Pogophiles, you are right, I should have said "West" Podunk. But Waycross would have been the perfect "SouthEast" Podunk....... Especially for a "Pogo"

We just say "BFE" around here.. and then there's my personal fave .."the place where you fall off the edge of the earth and get eaten by dragons".. yes it's lengthy, but it says it all for me.

Dear Pogo, Welcome from a Knoxvillian! I too have enjoyed Big Ed's Pizza on many occassions! In fact I have a little "Big Ed's ritual" where I have to spread napkins out underneath that teeney, tiny paper plate they give you so my steaming hot slice doesn't end up on the table! I always say I am going to bring my own regular size paper plate with me but I never do! (Wouldn't want to offend anyone!)

Hey everyone,

The last time I went back to TN my brother took me to a new BBQ place in Kingston. Apparently they are mainly caterers and are only open Thur-Sat. evenings. PULLED PORK TO DIE FOR! Definitely one of the best BBQ's I have ever had. They had just the right amount of "Mr. Brown" mixed into the pork, just the right amount of Hickory smoke. I have had better sauce but Dang, who needs sauce on great BBQ.

I am going to find out the name and get directions so I can post it here. Kingston is only a 20 minute drive from West Knoxville and they have a beautiful walkway around the lake to work off that big sandwich.
