Poll: Roadfood Sandwiches! Best Seafood Sandwich?

I know they can't add everything, but why no oyster or shrimp po'boy? (They're not the same as loaves.) Nevertheless, my all-time favorite was a sauteed abalone sandwich on a bun with lettuce, tomato, and mayo. Probably prohibitive today, but affordable in SF area in early 60s.

I would think that the lobster roll would be the runaway favorite with this bunch (I know I voted for it). But, if asked which one you actully EAT more often, I bet it's a different result - probably then a po' boy or the the tuna melt would be on top.

No crawfish po'boy, either. Just had one of those for lunch a few minutes ago. I don't know if I can pick this time, since every choice is pretty far down on my list. Guess I'll go with catfish po'boy, even though I rarely eat them.

Rick F.- I am just guessing since I don't have the Roadfood Sandwiches book here at work, but maybe there isn't a recipe for in the book. By the way, I didn't realize that the man and his wife from Natchitoches across the aisle on the bus tour was you. Had I known, I definitely would have said hello!

Scorereader: I almost certainly would have chosen the lobster roll, too--but I've never had the privilege of eating one. felix4067: I hadn't chosen one, but I'll follow your lead. buffetbuster: No, there wasn't one in the book; I bent the rules a little, as the forum title could have been interpreted to mean "Roadfood Sandwiches and/or Best Seafood Sandwiches!" "Bent"? Maybe "viciously distorted" is more accurate. I didn't know who you were, either, obviously. Oh, well. next time around!

my wife LOVES salmon burgers - which are really salmon patties. Can't recall the brand I used to get, but now I get them at Costco. NO question, she'd vote a 1000 times for it if she could. I'm not so jazzed about them, but then I'm not a salmon freak like she is. She loves salmon. When I'm in the dog house, she always lets me back in when I grill up a nice salmon filet.

Being from Baltimore, I don't eat my crabcakes on bread but rather served with crackers on the side. Therefore I didn't say crabcakes. Since I've been down here in Coastal NC I have become addicted to shrimpburgers (which we all know is not really a burger but fried shrimp on a roll with slaw & "ketchup")!!

I didn't even see the poll. Was Nashville's hot fish on the list? That gets my vote. A friend of mine(Al and Sundancer met him at a hot fish joint) is seriously considering opening his own place, and promises that he'll call his hot fish the Poverty Pete special.

I for one am looking forward to the opportunity to order the "Poverty Pete Special" the next time I am in Nashville.

First of all I didn't know that catfish was a seafood. I would replace that with a local favorite here in Boston, the fried haddock sandwich or scrod. Scrod is any small white fish from the sea. A favorite of mine when traveling thru the mid atlantic states is the soft shell crab sandwich. It's almost impossible to get it here unless frozen. Chow Jim

In the middle of the bridge between Norfolk and Maryland is a restaurant/tourist place that sells a giant flounder sandwich (about the size of a soccer ball for nine bucks. Great deal and super sandwich. I have stopped there several times and bought it. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

I voted for the oyster loaf -- and I really need to visit Casamento's in NOLA again to renew my acquaintance with this most excellent sandwich...

I know I'm gonna get slammed for this, and rightly so; but back in the '90s I liked Sonic's fish sandwich. Just a piece of fish, coated in crumbs and friend, on a big ol' toasted bun with some tartar sauce. Not fancy, not a delicacy or anything; but simple and tongue-burning hot and really nice on a cold day. So now hit me!
