I love Polish food! Of course, there no true Polish restaurants in Dallas although there is one Polish deli that's very good. All of his cold cuts come from a (excellent) Polish source in Chicago. If any of you go to London, England and want really, really good, (and inexpensive) genuine Polish food, try, "Daquise" close the South Kensington tube station. You'll think you've entered a time warp and have been transported to Warsaw pre-WWII.

Brad I live in St. F!! What are you doing? What time will you be here? Have time for breakfast/coffee/lunch/dinner? My aunt and uncle live on S. Arctic Ave (just north of Howard and on the western edge of Lake Parkway) and we're having a delayed Christmas...around 1pm, I think. However, the rest of my family will be with me and while Mrs. O is a good dining companion (she's bought into the Roadfood concept, too) the Horrid Teenagers definitely aren't, so you might want to think twice about extending any invitations! Otherwise an early, light dinner wouldn't be a bad idea at all and Kathy would definitely enjoy hearing about New Orleans. Just the other day she was saying that she'd like to visit it again. Brad

That sounds fantastic Yosh (or are you Stan?)! I hope one day to visit your home country of Leutonia. I hear your national dish, pan fried Vrdystchlob is quite delicious. Of course that's only if you like yak livers... Buddy P.S. Today's restaurant review, Klinger's East, looks like a future get together. Dat's some tasty lookin' fish and potato pancakes dere, eh? B.

Buddy, as you suggested, I'm posting my "intro" here on this thread. My name's Bob and I'm a 56 year-old retired railroader and a passionate lover of America's highway system ( REAL highways, NOT interstates! ) Give me a good old-fashioned two-lane anyday. As you can imagine, my love of the open road and my passion for good roadfood go hand in hand. I'd very much like to be part of your Chicago / Milwaukee group, and I hope you'll welcome me to your Jan. 25th gathering. There's a possibility that a friend will be accompanying me; he's not a roadfooder yet, but I'm working on him!

Good to have you Bob! Pay attention to this thread for details as we get closer to the date of the brunch. I myself am a Route 66 fan, having made the trip from Chicago to Meramec Caverns, taking our time and exploring in detail the wonders along the way. I'm sure we'll all have much to talk about on the 25th. Buddy

We are planning a major kitchen expansion which is occupying our time and will probably have us tied up on the Crocus weekend. I created a new blog to document the kitchen expansion. That is also close to Bobbi's birthday and she made reservations at some place called Lake Park Bistro that weekend. I think that's a long-winded and round-about way to say that we won't be at Crocus. We'll see you next time. Jim

Whatup, guys? Sorry I haven't been able to attend to the thread properly. Details @ brunch. abe, we are not going to the Crocus. We are going to the Polonez. Just wanted to make sure we are clear on that so you are not waiting for us there. http://www.foodspot.com/polonez/menu.html#brunch The prices are on the menu. I am going to have Brunch & I personally am also going to have some sauerkraut pierogies & potato pierogies. I know my friend Diane will want some charnina (I am not even going to try to spell that!) aka duck blood soup. So if you see something you want to try, chances are with a crowd this size, there will be someone or several someones to share with. Bob, welcome! We are happy to have you, I will put you down for 2. Yosh & Stan--tell Big Wally I've missed him & I'm looking forward to seeing him this spring. ;) Jim--We won't be at Crocus either! :D I didn't think you were ignoring or long-winded, I know you guys are busy. Happy Birthday to Bobbi & I'll see you this year I'm sure. Gelato place is 3 blocks from me. *cough* Gus can't make it but did you know he is now serving DEEP FRIED BACON????!?!?!?! I see a trip to Evanston in my future. ChiTownDiner? AnnPeeples? Anyone I missed?

I think it may be my fault that some people (including me up until this vey moment) think we're going to Crocus. In my enthusiasm to recruit new members to the group (nocarolina), and in many of my references to the event, because of the topic heading, I may have implied that Crocus was our destination. As we get closer to the actual date, and as we get an accurate head count, it might be a good idea to very clearly post the proper information so we don't have a split group. See you at Polonez on the 25th, Buddy

And here I thought the only place for Polish food was Gary, Indiana, where pizza was invented in a Polish restaurant.

See you at Polonez on the 25th, Buddy No, I can't let you take the rap for this one. It's posted in a couple of different posts that we are going to the Polonez, before they sell the business to a different owner. The reason for this is so that when the new owner takes over, we can go again to compare & contrast. Then someone reminded us that they have brunch. And it went from there. In my excitement over the thought of delectable pan-fried sauerkraut pierogies, scrumptious Polish sausages, and delicious golembke's, I forgot to make sure everyone knows that is where we are going. Also, the title of the thread is misleading. I should have made a new one. My bad. I will know for next time. Annnnnnnnnnnd Diane's birthday is January 30 & I fully intend on telling them that so they sing Happy Birthday in English & in Polish. So just to recap, we are going to the Polonez for brunch on Sunday January 25. We are meeting there @ 11:30am. They are located @ 4016 S Packard Avenue. "Directions: From I-94: Exit Howard and drive East to S. Packard. Turn right (south) on Packard continue one block and you’ll find us on your left. From the Airport: Take Layton Ave. east to Hwy. 794 (John Plewa Parkway). Go north on Hwy. 794 and continue to Howard. Drive east on Howard to S. Packard and turn right. Drive one block and you’ll find us on your left. From the South Side: Take Layton Ave. to South Packard. Turn on South Packard and continue for 6 blocks. You'll find us on your right."

Can't we (or ask a mod) edit the title of the thread to something like "Polenz Restaurant Outing, Milwaukee 1/25/08 (formerly Crocus)" just to clear things up? So we're doing lunch, then? Prices look pretty reasonable and I'm sure there will be lots of sharing. I'm going to put in a tentative "yes" for two. I feel like I'm forgetting something that's going on that day, though. I'll give a final yea/nay soon, though. I just bought my 2009 calendar today, so I've been trying to remember all my upcoming obligations in my head until now!
