Pop up Ads?

I seem to having a problem with full screen pop up adds on this site today. One in particular is for a registry mechanic. I click to read a post and it takes over the full screen. It may be on my end? Chow Jim

I've never received a pop up ad while on RF. It sounds like you've been invaded. You must be using Internet Explorer.

it's not you jim...same issue here. ie isnt the issue. these are forced pop-ups being served by tribal fusion. i've posted about this and will wait for stephens response. it could very well be that they are being served through a google ad but we will need to wait to hear from stephen.

yep..also using ff with pop-up blocker. 13 tabs currently open - i multi-task ;-) ff's pub will take care of the first popup when multiples are being served but if the second is forced (on click, on exit, etc) it won't pick it up. i've received the popup once today in the last 6 hours so it's apparently not being served with any real consistency which makes me think it is running off one of the banners being served at the top or bottom. there was a college banner at the top of the site when my popup appeared and the popup was also an college ad.

I have been getting them, too. They are so annoying but they do help pay the bills so it is something that we have to deal with.

I am getting no pop ups. My pop up blocker is detecting nothing. Beware you might have some spyware or other intruder serving the ads.

While reading about pop up problems, I was saying to myself "sure glad I don't have this annoyance". Well, less than 2 minutes later I had the full screen experience of registry mechanic!

They're here! Even with the new MS Explorer's pop-up blocker (i.e. ad encourager).

Have never had problems with pop-ups on RF. Mozilla Firefox is my backup browser & on some of the sites I go to, they've blocked the ads. On a trivia site I go to, Casalemedia is the menace, sometimes to the point where everything freezes & I have to get off & log in again.

quote:Originally posted by buffetbuster It has happened to me twice so far today. No big deal. It is easy to get rid of and if it pays the bills around here..... That's the issue...if stephen is not aware of pop-ups, then most likely roadfood isn't getting paid for them so it's just a jamjob by one of the companies serving ads on the site. Google and yahoo ads pay when you click on them...some of the banner ads pay when they show...but pop-ups that are not a part of the advertising deal are just annoying. Very few people like them AND management isn't getting paid for them..bad deal all around. I see stephens on it so I'm sure it will get fixed pdq. edited to add: as a user of both google and yahoo advertising, i just want to point out that the actions above earn pennies per occurence. a tremendous amount of user activity (especially in forums) is necessary to make a very small amount of money with this type of site monetization. nobodies getting rich...except google and yahoo ;-) but if it can eventually scrape enough together each month to offset some the costs associated with a site like this that's a good thing.

I also got the full page pop-ups when I clicked on this thread this morning, despite having a blocker on. When I closed it, it I found that I was no longer connected to RF and was back at the desktop.

Once again I offer the suggestion of a subscription, ad-free service. I will gladly pay a yearly fee to be without the pop-ups.

If it were up to me, popup ads would be illegal, as in felony. I use several popup blockers and they seem to work. I feel the same about popups as I feel about squeeze credits on TV. Illegal... 1 million dollar fine per occourrence per day, guilty until proven innocent. I personally will never do business with any organization that uses popups. I don't care which kind of business it is. If they disrupt my intranoot, they don't get my business.
