I've always thought that Robin Williams did a re great job as Popeye in the 1980 movie. And Shelly Duvall was perfect as Olive Oyl. Paul Smith played Bluto. Which is funny I mention him as Bluto in Popeye movie because I just watched Midnight Express last night for the first time. He played the bad guard Hamidou.

Oh how funny. I was curious what this thread was going to be about--I'm from the "spinach capital of the world" a small town in texas, yet.....i've never been fond of popeye cartoons or spinach. Not the way my mom made it anyway, boiled and just pieces of bacon and onion thrown in there. Baby spinach is a different story. I also LOVED robin williams in popeye; I though he was so cute when I first saw the movie when I was around 7 or so. interesting fact about paul smith Scorereader, I didn't know he was that horrible guard. I've never been able to watch Midnight Express again after having seen it about ten years ago.

The Popeye cartoons of the 1930s are just flat-out great! After an eternity of legal tangles, they're supposed to be out on DVD later this year - I'd buy it just for the classic 'Goonland'.
