Pork Rinds..who has the best???

I went to a farmers market and found some pork rinds from Clinton KY, these looked Really homemade and looked more like short strips of bacon than what I've seen as regular "pork rinds" I got a package and gave it to my brother in law who loves stuff like that. Who else has great tasting pork rinds???

A month or so ago I happened upon some freshly prepared rinds at a country market. Hot from the grease they were delicious. The next day and beyond they were rather bland and grease laden. Go figure.

the only time i tried pork rinds was when
    i was on atkins.
laugh all you will, but the only ones
i liked were kroger brand barbeque.
    definitely not something i wanted
to indulge. i think that diet alone
    turned me into a vegetarian.

Carolina Country Snacks, of Henderson, NC makes some great stuff.

The regular pork rinds are pork skins that are fried up till they're puffed up and crunchy, sort of like what's in the supermarket, but with more texture and real fried pork skin flavor.

The pork rind strips are strips of skin fried up to very crunchy. This is some good stuff. If you're not careful, something you could break a tooth on.

The cracklings are small squares of skin fried up crunchy. Not as much a mouthful as the strips.

All of it is good, considering that it is deep-fried pork fat. To be taken in moderation. Great for Atkins.

IMHO, the best are the kind you get at the fairs or markets, when they're fresh out of the grease as someone mentioned above. The store bought types are OK but the hot fresh ones are better. They do not keep very well, but they are usually gone in a few hours anyway.

"Wallace" brand out of NC, I like the original flavor the best, they have a BBQ and hot as well. There is also a brand called "Dad's" that has the strip type you can either get in an airy type, or more of a dense, harder cracklin' type that can be hard on the teeth but are certainly good. We had/have a family owned grocer in Starke that carried fresh, I would buy them heat up my oven and cast iron, a little salt and bake them for a few, those were the best but they no longer carry them.

I had some in Tampa made by a company called Chifles. They had a "smokehouse" flavor that were quite good, as were their cassava chips, and plantain chips.

Tom's Salt and Pepper pork rinds are the best. I don't like cracklins or any other kind of hard pork rind.

I ate some darn good freshy fried chicharrones in Mexico- I don't wanna know how old the lard was that they were fried in. I kinda just shrugged my shoulders and thought "as long as it doesn't kill me, it's all good."

Out of the bag Bake-etts. The Mexican meat market ones are good with a squirt of lemon and some Buffalo brand hot sauce.

I guess I've never had a real fresh-fried pork rind. Has anyone tried the Lowrey's pork rind in the microwaveable popcorn type bag? I haven't seen them too many places, but I think I have bought them at Wal-Mart in Vadnais Heights, MN. I think they're pretty good, but I'm no connoiseur(sp?) Some turn out real light and crispy, and others more hard and crunchy. Ithink they offer hot ones, too. www.lowreys.com/

I just came across a new brand of pork rinds(bag says they have other snacks as well) for my area.  They're called "Brim's" and they come from Bartlett, TN, just noticed that there is a quote from the Bible on the bag, never seen that before.  Anyway I bought the "red hot" flavor.  First thing I noticed was a slight tang, a hot sauce type tang which I like. Hot sauce is listed in the ingredients.  They are just a tad harder than others I find in my area which I like also.  Any one else have these in their area?

My favorite is a brand named "Kim's Cracklins" out of Clarksdale, MS  They make a hot variety as well.  They also make the best chicken cracklins as well.  They're only sold locally in stores as I can tell.  Look them up online for the ph# to call direct.

Even though Kim's in Clarksdale is a local favorite most everyone I know likes Brim's best.
